Thrasher From Dasher

Dasher have recently signed to Jagjaguwar Records, announced their debut album, Sodium, and shared the title track from this upcoming record. While I’m not prone to listen to music such as heavy as this, there’s definitely something pulling about the post-punk instrumentation that caught my ear. The vocals are a harsh scream that may take some getting used to, but the band does a great job building the track to its climactic finish. Take a listen below and then go pre-order their forthcoming record right here.

Sodium will be out July 14.

Guantanamo Baywatch Aim to Keep Garage Rock Alive

While the spectre of garage rock still looms in the musical air, fewer and fewer acts are sticking to the genre at its purest (or as we ascribed it). Guantanamo Baywatch return with Desert Center, and just a slight hint at the sound they helped to repopularize. But, they’ve added a bit more boogie, a bit more soulfulness, all kicked on by the rolling drum work that opens the tune. There’s little musical stutters and exuberant shouts, and by the time the song hits its midway, you’ll be thinking that the band are perhaps as far removed as they could get themselves. Can’t wait to hear the new record, as these guys always have a secret hit or two saved for your ears until you buy the LP; it hits on August 4th via Suicide Squeeze.

ATH Presents Blushing, Tres Oui and Growl @ Hole in the Wall Tomorrow

From time to time we like to put together little rock n’ roll shows, and boy do we have an incredible one for you tomorrow night at Hole in the Wall. It just happens to feature some ATH Records bands breaking down the doors and throwing some great pop music in your faces. Blushing is one of our favorite new acts in town, so hopefully you’ve caught on to their dreamy stylings. Tres Oui, well, those guys are great…this is jangling Prefab Sprout at its best. Oh, and you didn’t hear Growl all over your local radio in April? Well, come see them! Doors are at 9..we’ll see you there!

Check Out This New White Reaper Video

For anyone who has yet to check out the new album, The World’s Best American Band, from rockers White Reaper, I highly suggest you do it now. Get it here now from Polyvinyl Records. With that out of the way, I’m excited today to share the band’s latest video from the title track of their new record. Now you may or may not have already heard this song, but I suggest you also check out this badass new video for the track animated by Simon-Young. It’s sort of a School House Rock vibe if it was drawn by folks with a dirty mind.

Brooding Electropop from Sleep Party

It’s the middle of the week, and let’s be honest, you’re likely to start drifting away, mentally. I envision you pressing play on this track from Sleep Party People, letting the electronic pulse wash over you and carry your thoughts into the world. There’s definitely a pop side of this tune, whether it be from the floating melodies or the bobbing bass line, however, the composition is perfectly built for wandering minds…it’s almost dreamy, but you can only use that word so many times in day. Look for the release of Lingering on June 2nd via Joyful Noise Recordings.

Another New One from Leather Girls

While the recent singles indicate some solid diversity from Leather Girls forthcoming LP, this new jam finds the band in their sweet spot, hitting those psychedelic vibes. You’re immediately transported back in time, shimming about the coolest lounge you’ve found. I love how the group holds tight to a quick pace, almost leaving the song behind as the tune moves into a carefully mapped freakout. The band drop their self-titled LP next wee via Yippee Ki Yay.

Listen to Someone

That’s not a direct order, but rather a request, as I’m really entranced by the latest release from Dutch act, Someone. The song opens with this fuzzy electronic buzz, and the music begins to take a subdued twist, lowering the volume for the vocals to enter the scene. It’s a fairly clean performance, and the chorus melody is something special…so give in to the lighter side of your pop hearts. This is Tessa’s firstforay into a deeper pop realm than her past, and it’s quite a success, I say.

Rock With Downtown Boys

If you’re looking to bring the tempo and energy up in your mid day work week, might I suggest you listen to this new single entitled “A Wall” from Providence based rockers Downtown Boys. Seriously, this track is so full of energy and driven by sheer rock power, it has to make your day a little bit better. One can only imagine how awesome this song must be when seen performed lived. Uhhh yeah.

Downtown Boys new album Cost of Living is out on August 11th via Sub Pop.

Check Out This Dream Version Ditty

Guitar rock is alive and well in Chicago, with several acts breaking out like Ne-Hi. But, I don’t think I’ve heard a band take the same approach that Dream Version is pushing through your speakers. The riffs are pretty jagged/angular, knifing their way through the mix while synthesizers fade in and out of the background. It almost gives the song a bounce or an added-step, elevating the group beyond your standard fare of modern indie heroes. It’s almost punk rock, but its definitely cool, so I’ll give it my meaningless seal of approval. Look for their sophomore LP, Fight Fair, on July 7th.

Liven Up Your Day With Bloody Your Hands

New York based Bloody Your Hands might be one of the tightest bands instrumentally I’ve heard in quite awhile. As a three piece, it’s crazy that these guys can produce such a loud and intricate sound. New single, “Wandering Home”, is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. The pace is intense, the timing is impeccable, and the breakdowns offer a nice emotional break from the ferocity.

New album Monsters Never Die is out on July 7th.
