New Tunes from Tape Deck Mountain

tapedeckIt’s been a little bit since we last heard from Tape Deck Mountain, but the project has reappeared with a new song and an upcoming I Will Break U EP release. This track is pretty solid in every way, though I like the contrast between the burgeoning blister of noise and the subtle release of the vocals…almost drawn out from the insides of the human soul. Eventually it settles into familiar shoegaze territory, but there’s just enough to keep things different. Looks like the new EP will be featured in the new fangled cassette format that the kids love on October 8th.

Stoked On This New Lubec Single

lubecWhen I got wind that Lubec were recording with Dylan Watt (Craft Spells/Naomi Punk) I was really excited. I knew that there would be another act I could enjoy, something energetic with a nice audio feel to it. Their latest single from their upcoming album, Cosmic Debt, has this angular indie cum emo feel to it, with some emphatic female shouts blurting out to strengthen the overall vibe. It’s also got a nice little breakdown near the latter end of the track for an added bit of musicianship. The album drops via Disposable America on September 30th.

ATX Spotlight: Brand New Botany

botany-deepak-verberaWhile Stranger Things has brought the spotlight to Austin’s Holodeck Records (deservingly so!), there’s still some other labels and acts not associated that are worthy of your time…like Botany. This track dropped late last Friday, so odds are that those with good taste have heard it already. It’s a movement piece, washing little bits of space-y atmospherics and twinkling atop this beautiful little piano backbone. It’s a journey and a story being told, though I think it’s completely open to your interpretation as the song takes form, and then changes. I relish the exploratory quality within the confines of this listen, and hope you’ll give it a deserved listen; look for this song on the new album, Deepak Verbera from Western Vinyl on October 14th.

Bedroom Gaze from Marble Arch

marblearchNot sure where I first stumbled upon Marble Arch, but my bandcamp scouting reported that a new tune was up…and it immediately filled a hole in my listening rotation. Honestly, it’s a dense bit of bedroom pop, organized around electronic beats/samples; it doesn’t fall too far from the realm of Radio Dept., except this is a wee bit more dreary in its atmospheric positing. It’s rainy day music done perfectly right, but you can listen to it any time really…or at least that’s my recommendation.

Show Preview: Mild High Club @ Mohawk (Tonight!)

mhcThere aren’t too many choices for checking out shows after a long weekend, so tonight do yourself a favor and head out to Mohawk for Mild High Club. The eclectic band recently released Skiptracing, which we ran a review of last week, HERE. They specialize in modern psychedelic vibes, pushing the envelope a bit more than most of their peers. And, by attending, you get to catch your dose of great local acts as well, with Tamarron and Rotten Mangos taking the stage as openers. It’s a highly anticipated show, but tickets will still be available at the door. Start this short week off right folks!

Muuy Biien es Muy Bueno

autumntoneThis past year at the annual Athens showcase during SXSW I finally caught Muuy Biien live, and boy did they ever deliver; they were one of my highlights of the entire festival. That being said, they return with a slightly different sound for their upcoming LP, Age of Uncertainty. Their spastic attitude has been traded for something calmer, though a wee bit more experimental in regards to their sound. It gives the band a steadier sound that I’m still attracted to, though I hope it doesn’t affect their live set as they settle into this new groove. Look out for the new record on October 28th via Autumn Tone Records.

ATX Spotlight: Tele Novella Release Heavy Balloon Video

In what has been a banner year for Austin music (despite the scene dying) on the nation-wide scene, it looks like Tele Novella will continue that trend with their forthcoming House of Souls. While we’ve all loved their newest tune, we’re now getting treated to a spectacular new video for the song itself. It’s quirky, just as one would expect, and every time I hear this song, I just marvel at the gifts of Natalie in the track. Enjoy the song one more time, only now with more visual stimulation! Album hits via Yellow Year on September 23rd.

Bloodhounds On My Trail Offer New Tune

bloodhoundsPlease don’t think that the only thing going on in Melbourne is guitar pop, and if you disagree, then just listen to the newest Bloodhounds On My Trail tune. It’s a sweeping piece of darkened rock n’ roll, balancing crisp guitar tones with the shimmery sort that collide in a wall of atmospherics. Bass grooves are heavy, almost thundering…all contrasted by a semi-croon, softening the song’s stance. It’s a promising number that will actually be handled by Texas based Moon Sounds Records for distribution on September 16th.

Hazy Pop From Heavy Heart

13680794_1062590187111474_356682200736920488_nI’d like to take a brief second of your time and introduce you to this up and coming band from London called Heavy Heart. The group has been releasing a song every month this year and they just sent over their August song entitled “Fever Dream”. I’d liken the band to haze pop greats POBPAH but also with a little bit more bite with that heavy break down about 2 minutes in. This guy can’t wait to hear what they put out next month.

Americana Tinged Rock From Oldermost

oldermostOldermost are a group out of Philadelphia, PA, that ride on the waves of rock and roll, but their tunes fall along the softer side of that rock spectrum. They’ve got new track to share with you called “Finally Unsure,” and you’ll hear what I mean when you start to listen. The guitars are immediately there, along with the undercurrent of throbbing bass, but they’re second to those whispery vocals. But just you hold on, the track isn’t all quiet americana, no, stay with it till the end and you’ll be delighted to hear the way in which the song builds to its close. From such humble beginnings comes a huge, swelling sound.
