Bonus Track From Moon Duo!

unnamed-2Whenever a band that just released an album throws another track your way, you take it. Moon Duo, the psychedelic rockers who released Shadow of the Sun earlier this year, have a bonus song from that release to share with you today called “Fadeaway” and it’s packed with even more of that great gritty psych rock that you love from these two. Who knows when we’ll hear from this band again, so take pleasure in the extra track below and if you haven’t already, check out Shadow of the Sun, which is out via Sacred Bones Records.

Why Aren’t You Listening to Wildhoney?!?

10636662_868611053203947_3628233110282321580_oI’m pretty sure we warned you (through the help of our friends warning us) about how great Wildhoney is? Personally, one of my favorites shows this year included them playing with Expert Alterations at Cheer Ups earlier this year…then caught them again a few weeks later at Hotel Vegas. The Baltimore act crafts a brand of shoegaze that is often bombastic and abrasive, yet can turn in an instant to an innocent fragility that softens the heart. They’re back again already with the brand new Your Face Sideways EP, which is being released by Topshelf on October 16th.

ATH Premiere: Meet Stiletto Feels

stilettofeels-1We here at ATH have long been fans of the craftsmanship of Geoff Earle, formerly of Freshmillions, who now has a brand new project we’d like to introduce you to (and a new record label-GTZ): Stiletto Feels. I’ve been listening to this track quite a bit since Geoff passed it our way; it’s like a blend of Ratatat and MSTRKFT, but with a really smooth soul vocal added to it. You can groove or you can dance, but you’re going to fall in love. It’s going to be the first release for Earle’s new label, GTZ Records, who will be celebrating with a nice Single Release Party on Saturday night over at Empire Control Room. Get into the song below.

The Sweet Serenades Return!

11214163_10152816276992126_3343084195886037801_nI’ve been talking about Swedish group The Sweet Serenades for some time now and I’m overly excited to hear about their return to the music making world.  Our new single from the band, “Come Out and Play”, is a sort of Springsteen-esque, driving pop tune complete with shiny vocals and even a slick ass guitar solo towards the end.  Yet again this band does a whole lot of good while making it all seem effortless.

Mark your calendars for the release of Animals on October 10th.

Show Pics: Nick Diamonds @ Holy Mountain (9/8)

Nick DiamondsAfter last night, Holy Mountain now has eighteen shows left. We had a good opportunity to spend a little time before things get a little nuts as all of the people that now publicly lament the venue’s closing will finally go to a show there. (Yes, that was quite facetious.)

Anyway, Nick Diamonds brought the latest solo music to life and brought along The Tulips for the ride. It was a very loyal crowd. We’ll talk whisky, relocation, blips and bloops, failed lighting and “the scene” and provide all the pics you need to see after the break.

ATX Spotlight: A Little Rock From Sally Crewe

16576_10151818956882437_758950477_nIf you’re looking for rock music disguised as pop music with flairs of garage rock, then look no further than Austin’s own Sally Crewe. Crewe’s been around for a while, but she’s turning heads with this new single and title track of her upcoming album, “Later Than You Think,” which shows off her skills in the field of rock and roll. At first, the track seems like a solid rock tune showcasing the pop vocals and guitar hooks, but about two thirds of the way in, it takes a little turn for the darkness, and this is where Crewe really shines.  Sally Crewe is releasing Later Than You Think on September 22nd via 8 Track Mind.

Blast This New Track from Chomp

10917920_785601878196428_795133212361893412_oChomp‘s a three-piece rock act from Ohio, and I’m definitely digging their style. It blends a bit of art rock with hints of late 90s emo/punk. But, it also has this death march bass line that works throughout the track as the guitar squeals into your air; there’s an air of danger in the song…so if that’s your thing. October 9th will see the release of their Bruise Control EP via the good people at Mirror Universe Tapes, so take a trip and turn the stereo up!

Ezra Furman Covers The Replacements

ezraI’m not sure exactly where I sit on the Ezra Furman fence; I think I’m straddling as we speak. That might change now that he’s chosen to cover a Replacements song, and not just any song, but perhaps my favorite track from the band, period: “Androgynous.” It’s a pretty decent job too, thus why I figured I would be okay with sharing it with you (as if there were any rules). You’ll be able to find this version on the deluxe release of his latest album, Perpetual Motion People; I’m thinking this tune might just convince you to pick it up yourself.
