Daytrotter SXSW Sessions

20030654-3737972Damn you Daytrotter!  We promised these people no more posts about Glasvegas and then you go and do this!  What we’re talking about is a new series of live performances on the Daytrotter website featuring bands recorded during SXSW.  The sessions are extra special because each band takes a few of their songs and turns them into acoustic mini-ballads.  Right now the site has sessions posted by our very own Strange Boys and of course ATH favorite Glasvegas.  Check out this cry yourself to sleep at night version of Geraldine (also one of our songs of ’08).  Keep checking back to daytrotter often as more sessions are said to be on the way.

VEGA @ Beauty Bar 4/24

april24We ran a SXSW watchlist on Alan Palomo’s new project VEGA, but then missed the band amidst the craziness that is SXSW week.  Lucky for you and me, Beauty Bar is having a VEGA EP listening party along with a live set by the band on Friday night.  Local DJ Prince Klassen will be spinning in-between sets and locals Doneski will provide opening entertainment.  This event is totally free and doors open at 8pm.  This will be a dance party you won’t want to miss.

From The Closet: Cake

cakeWe wanted to bring you some Cake this week to celebrate the band’s upcoming appearance at Stubbs on Tuesday the 28th (tickets are sold out btw).  Our from the closet jam, “Frank Sinatra”, has long been a favorite of mine.  It was also my first exposure to the band oh so many years ago and still sounds as fresh as ever.  You can hear it as the opening track on the band’s breakthrough 1996 album Fashion Nugget.

New Tunes from Lewis & Clarke

lewis Sometimes you can’t go wrong with a quiet tune that reminds you of sitting creek-side with your favorite companion, and that’s just what Lewis & Clarke provide. The featured track comes on the brink of a new EP.  Listen carefully, as the song is so quiet you  might miss it if you don’t pay attention.  For more tunes check out the group’s Blasts of Holy Birth; here is “Petrified Forest.”

New Tunes from Blank Dogs

blankdogsBlank Dogs has steadily released lo-fi bedroom recordings for the past couple of years, garnering interest from fans and bloggers alike. As he prepares for the release of Under and Under, which is set to come out on In the Red, we get a hint of what the new album will sound like. This track is a little bit more straight forward, though still coated in fuzz and mystery, like the man himself.
