It seems like everywhere you go nowadays, things are hot and only getting hotter. But, you can always hop in (or on) your ride and roll those windows down to catch a breeze. If you need the soundtrack for that though, you’d better turn on EP from the Goods. It’s a four song collection of huge riffs and sunshine filled melodies that will certainly make flying through the summertime a little bit more enjoyable. Rob Good’s playing definitely brings about those bright bits, but Paul Wiseman’s drum work through the EP gives a strong punch of energy to go along with the anthemic nature of what’s at play. Body Double Share Carnation Island

When I turned on this Body Double single, I immediately thought it was going to be this heavy piece of cold post-punk. Sure, the first 40 seconds or so does feel like that, with this sort of industrial underbelly running through the track. But, get past that point and the tune opens up into this broad bit of hook-laden pop; the song soars in the chorus, bringing about this huge melodic rush to your eras. It’s the perfect juxtaposition too, letting the song bounce back and forth before it euphorically bounds to a punching close. If you’re digging on it, the tune is on their new Voice 2 Skull EP, out July 21st via Zum.

Pretty In Pink Share Star Video

One has to have something pretty remarkable at hand in order to completely captivate a listener by stripping a track of traditional percussive elements. In fact, Pretty in Pink really operate their latest single with little more than guitar lines and these heavenly vocals that seem to sway back and forth through your speakers, like the wind blowing across tall plains grasses. For me, I had to take a deep breath as soon as I heard the jangling guitar line dance against the quieted strum behind it; I knew I was in for something supremely moving. Those guitar lines don’t stray from one another as the tune unfolds, blanketing the tune in intertwined DIY ethos. Those vocals though, have the power to carry you on their wings, drift you off into this magical land where everything blankets you with warmth; I like the nice touch too when all three members combine near the song’s end, deepening the song’s magic. You’ll hear this track on the group’s next LP, Pillows, out in September via Little Lunch/Hidden Bay/Subjangle.

Dance to A Beacon School’s New Single

Having received a great deal of praise after some electronic flourishes on Cola, A Beacon School has upped the ante for the latest record, yoyo. On this new single, once the ambient wash clears the floor, the song just hits that groove and locks you into the dance floor. It provides that sort of primal beat that gets heads bobbing and legs flailing, the rhythmic pulse pushing you to let your entire body float away. This is pure musical escapism, particularly as the thump from that bass kicks in during the song’s later half; I can literally feel myself just pushing my body and soul as the speakers rattle and lights flash all about me. yoyo will be out on October 13th via Grind Select.

Sonny and the Sunsets Share Pink Cake

While Sonny Smith has been at it for quite awhile, there’s something about his latest work that’s really got my ears perked up for the new LP. For instance, and maybe I’m stretching here, but there’s definitely something in this song that feels like it was penned by Dan Treacy. I’m not sure whether its the way that bits of accompaniment join in out of nowhere or that combo vocal that’s charming in the middle. It could even be that digressing guitar line at 47 seconds squiggling its way right into your ears. So if Self Awareness Through Macrame is going to be Sonny and the Sunsets nod to Television Personalities, I’m absolutely here for that! Rocks In Your Head drop the LP on August 25th.

A Giant Dog Drop I Believe Single

When I first clicked on the latest from A Giant Dog, I really thought that Sabrina was channeling Marissa from Screaming Females; her voice takes on that sort of guttural tone, but it’s all a huge set-up! Ellis voice is instantly pushed to catchy heights as the band smashes down behind her, stomping in their heavy brand of pop rock. What I’m loving from the new stuff, however, is all the little details that come in throughout the track, particularly when you get to the interlude and all the sweeping emotions that get sprinkled across there. Get ready to enjoy the hell out of Bite; it drops on August 25th via Merge.

Lutalo Drops Push Back Baby Video

Listening to Lutalo allows me to really digest my days; they create this mixture of soul and rock and smear it atop a pop canvas that leaves me with a sense of joyous bewilderment. Their lyrical content is always sharp, with this track hitting at capitalist greed and the systemic way it continues to run its course. But, you’d be forgiven if you miss that on the first run through (as I beg you to back) because the rhythmic bubbling is pure mental escapism. Not really sure where you’d file this, genre-wise, and perhaps that’s their best attribute, crafting tunes that speak, musically, for themself, with no need for identification. Keep an eye out for the Again EP, dropping via Winspear on August 25th, then hitting the road with Katy Kirby.

Well unless you just straight up don’t read about the new tunes on our site, I’m sure you’ve seen my fandom around the upcoming LP from Danny Blackwell and his LA based project Night Beats. If you did miss it, go back and check out the albums lead banger “Hot Ghee,” the psych trip of “Thank You,” and the groovy one “Nightmare.” Once you’re done there, come on back for the last preview of the new album with this slow R&B melody of “Blue.” Hit play and melt into the beats.

Skeleten Drop Heart Full of Tenderness Single

As of late, I’ve been hanging out in my own head, which can be either good or bad, depending upon how you look at it. In that, I’ve also kind of delved into some really chilled late night beats, like Sydney’s Skeleten. On his latest single, there’s this great vibe, like you’re walking through some dark club tunnel, beat bouncing through your ears, but things are just a bit eerie, shadows and lights creeping in from the corners of your eyes. The vocals are seductive, particularly when you focus on the horizon of the visualizer, awaiting the slight pop switch that kicks in right at 1:45ish; it adds another dimension that completes the supreme escapism one might be seeking. Skeleten will release their debut album Under Utopia on July 28th via 2MR.

Sloppy Heads Announce Sometimes Just One Second LP

If you were brandishing your style of pop as slop-rock, and you wanted to go down as the coolest, how would you do it? Oh, get James McNew (its James Day at ATH!) to play dabble throughout your whole LP? Maybe get production help from Gary Olson? You might even get legendary Sesame Street animator Al Jarnow to create the LP’s first video! The new Sloppy Heads LP has all those bullet points, all of that to go with calling legendary DIY label Shrimper home for the release of Sometimes Just One Second. But what about the music? Greeted by an startling howl, you’d be forgiven for thinking the band have slid into Halloween punk, but they turn that carnivalesque manufacturing into a buzzsaw brand of pop. The song lurches and pulses, spinning into this electronic whirlpool of fuzzed electro pop. Lock into the vibe and the visuals suck you right into the wormhole that is this glorious single!
