Levitation Interviews: Acid Mothers Temple

Today now marks just one short week away from Levitation Festival kicking off in downtown Austin on Halloween night and running through the weekend. We rather enjoy these quick snapshots of bands coming into town and we hope you also appreciate the exposure to artists you maybe weren’t aware of, or didn’t know so much about. Continuing this fun project is the absolute legendary Acid Mothers Temple. We feel very fortunate to have such a powerhouse participate in our nonsense. #blessed More after the jump.

SXSW Thursday In Photos

Despite some of the self-inflicted guilt of being part of the machine, we’re still out there trying to cover as much music and see as many bands as we could on Thursday. We were able to really bounce here and there, with the Valhalla and 13th Floor giving a prime location for the bloggers crossing the road. I think we all squeezed in some bands that we had wanted to see this year, so that’s an added bonus getting to cross a rad act off your list!

MoonKill Share Murderhouse Single

MoonKill are a fairly new Austin act on the scene, coming at us with the promise that they live somewhere in the world darkened punk realms where all things Danzig are held sacred. There’s an early single from their The Kong Sessions EP that feels as if its channeling the Misfits, but this new tune has the feel of a slightly more metal tinged go, particularly in the way the guitars seem to be descending and ascending in various scales. Even within the confines of the howls and growls, there’s something in the band that feels very much like you’re driving West on I-10 in an old Cadillac with your hair blowing from beneath your cowboy hat…basically Danzig fronting Clutch…and I’m not mad at that! The group celebrate their forthcoming release with a show on September 15th at 13th Floor, accompanied by My Education and more!

Semi Trucks Announce Debut Album

What’s in the California water these days? Semi Trucks are the latest from the Golden State to brandish this blend of lo-fi bedroom pop that feels like the waves rolling ashore on a windless day. It’s like you’ve walked into some den of sin, smoke billowing in your eyes, and as you wipe it away, you can make out this quiet band in the corner; they’ve got a soft tambourine and this distorted guitar conducting a seance with everyone in attendance. All the while, the vocals seem caught up like the smoke, swirling and twirling around you with every breath taken. Leave breadcrumbs as you listen, as you’re likely to get lost in the caverns of this tune. The band will release Vs. California via Meritorio on November 26th.
