New Music From Tindersticks

tindersticksReally not sure how I missed this sweet new Tindersticks tune “Black Smoke” that hit the interwebs a couple of weeks ago.  It’s sort of a 60s throw back sounding tune with vocals that fit in perfectly alongside that sweet sax solo at the end.  The new Tindersticks album, Falling Down a Mountain, will hit stores Jan. 25th in the UK (via 4AD) and Feb. 16th in the states (via Constellation). This should be another album to watch for in 2010.

New Tunes from Mountain Goats

mountainI’m not sure how many songs John D. has under The Mountain Goats moniker, but I’m always thirsty for more.  His witty lyrics and gentle guitar strumming never cease to please.  He’s got a new album coming out titled The Life of the World to Come on 4AD on October 6th.  Apparently all the songs have biblical references, but he swears it’s not some newfound devotion.  Here’s the new track.

New Pixies Album

pixies2_wideweb__470x3460Okay, so we’re not completely sure about all of this, but as of this point, it seems pretty legit.  Last night, a few sites showed this site , which seems to indicate that a new album, titled Minotaur, will be released by the band at some point this summer.  You can pre-order starting June 15th.  But, we have no news on singles or who is going to release it, although the majority of Pixies releases came our way via 4AD. I’m not going to lie; I’m a wee bit excited here.

Yeasayer – Tightrope

yeasayerSo as many of you may know, a huge new compilation disc called Dark Was the Night was recently released by the 4AD record label and Yeasayer laid down this track for it.  We’ve loved ‘Tightrope” since we first saw it on The Current and then again on La Blogotheque so we were excited to hear that the band was giving the jam a proper recording session.  But then bummer, the Dark Was the Night version just didn’t compare to the live tracks.  Maybe the band felt the same way and maybe that’s why they played/filmed yet another version of the song for the fine folks at 4AD (or maybe they can’t make up their damn mind).  This new version brings in the banjo with some melodica and can be heard/seen over on youtube.  It’s way cooler than this studio version.

Broken Records

32242jpegNot too sure if we’re late getting on the bandwagon for Edinburgh band Broken Records, but you can consider us fully aboard the fan train.  Sounds and influences seem to draw heavily from fellow Scottish indie bands like Frightened Rabbit with a more native Celtic sound. Forming in the land of Scots back in 2006, the band is set to release a debut full length album Until the Earth Begins to Part on June 1st via the famous 4AD record label.
