Watch Get Wrong’s Purple Video

It’s always crazy to me how a video can completely sell a song, or a band as is the case with Get Wrong. The band, comprised of Adam from Spook School and Naomi from Martha, have just released their debut EP, which offers their pop sensibility spun through a more beat-oriented world. But, this video manages to catch the spirit of the two artists, grinning from ear to ear as they walk about the countryside, even scrubbing down a huge hog. That joy manages to shine through in their songwriting, so you’ll best be served by bopping to this tune, then be sure you stream the rest of their Get Wrong EP (courtesy of Father Daughter Records and Alcopop).

The Squiggles Sign to Alcopop Records, Drop New Tune

Niall McCamley was once a part time comedian, as well as the drummer for revered (and missed) pop act the Spook School; he is also just a super nice human being. But, as of late he’s been working on his own project, Squiggles; they just announced their signing to Alcopop Records for a brand new EP, so of course we’re all over it. The song’s video seems to hit on some self-reflection, offering up relatable admissions in between the track’s emphatic bursts of pure pop bliss. You also get some familiar friends in AC (Spook School) and Sophie (Life Model) adding in some stellar backing vocals, building on the hook power that Niall’s laying down. Like his former act, Squiggles seems to be walking that fine line between personal, motivational and all out joy. So come on, be a Squiggle.

Keg Share Presidential Walk

We’ve found ourselves jamming to Keg quite a bit this year, and with a new EP on the horizon, perhaps we should share a bit of that joy with you. The Brighton outfit will surely get you some Shame comparisons, but there ability to flesh those sounds beyond is due to the group carrying 7 members in their pocket. You’ll get that angular post punk guidance, that sharp bob and weave delivery. But, the most exciting elements come when various members decide to toy with the song’s DNA, weaving in elements of jazz and post-rock into the band’s exploratory adventure. You’ll find this group on tour with Squid, where you can grab their Assembly EP, out October 22nd via Alcopop.

Straight Rocker From Gaffa Tape Sandy

Nathan and I developed a love affair for English based band Gaffa Tape Sandy a couple of years ago and we’ve been eagerly awaiting more music from the band ever since. Somehow we missed new single “Headlights” dropped back in March, but luckily the band have another new single called “So Dry” ready to share today. To be perfectly honest, this is exactly what I needed today as I delve through new music full of bleeps, bloops and effected vocals. Not here, this trio again delivers a powerful track mixing all the best edgy elements of The Thermals with the sensible song construction of a band like Weezer, but with even better melodies. I love it.

Gaffa Tape Sandy will release new EP Family Mammal on August 9th via Alcopop! Records.

Fresh Video from The Spook School

You know we have an undying love affair with the Spook School, and they’re back today with news of a new label and a new record! One of the many things I love about the band is their ability to craft infectious indiepop with serious sentiment in the lyrical content. This song is said to be overcoming abusive relationships, or just being better than an abusive personality…and with a line like “fuck you I’m still alive” who wouldn’t believe them. There’s a message hiding in their hooks, only make the band all more important in your life. The band will release Could It Be Different on Alcopop Records/Slumberland Recordsin January of the 2018. I’ll buy it…you should too.
