For the 8 or so people who read this blog on the regular, you’ll likely be aware of my affection for all things Oceanic, primarily New Zealand and Australia. So, with year end lists in mind, I thought I’d offer up my personal takes on the best tunes to come out of the area in 2017. There’s no particular order, just my sixteen favorites of the year.

Alex Lahey, out of Melbourne, is coming up in the scene with some pretty great indie rock that fans of Courtney Barnett will enjoy. The new track she released this morning, “Lotto in Reverse” is a prime example of her sleek yet fuzzed out rock and roll. The guitars are heavy in the mix, grounding the whole thing in a layer of garage sound, while the vocals demand the power of the track, Lahey’s range shining through the choruses.
