Shivery Shakes Share Nostalgic Loop

One of the first records we put out on our little ATH Records label was the debut LP from Austin’s Shivery Shakes; it seems like so so long ago, but now we’ve got something new working for you. The band have signed on to let us put out Weird Weather, their follow-up album…it’s slated for a late September release. Today I bring you one of the standout numbers from the LP, which has also been one of my favorite live jams as of late; I love the way it builds all the way, then has this huge breakdown at the end. Shivery Shakes Return With “No Return”

The boys are back in town! Shivery Shakes announced their upcoming LP, Weird Weather, a few weeks back, but today, they’ve finally shared a track for our listening pleasure. This hometown four piece has been wowing us with their weirdo brand of surf pop tunes for a while, releasing their debut LP Three Waves & A Shake way back in 2014. Since then they’ve been quiet, but begin their triumphant return, ironically, with “No Return.” Impossibly tight knit beachy guitar riffs crash and collide with shimmery percussion, grounding bass lines and Will Glosup’s fuzzy vocals. The result is a track that’s perfect for the summer; listening to this song, you feel the need to get in your car, roll down the windows, pull on your shades and start driving to the beach or any body of water.

Weird Weather will be out sometime late September on our very own ATH Records. Word on the street is that this will be the pop album of the year. Take a listen to the perfect summer jam below and get stoked.

Stream Ways a Season by She Sir

We’ve been operating the label here now for half a dozen years, and each year, I’m forever grateful to the bands that let me put myself behind their music. And for years, I’ve fawned over She Sir, one of Austin’s most underrated acts; I bugged them enough until they finally agreed to let me release their new Ways a Season EP. You can grab a copy of the limited orange vinyl HERE, but I also wanted you to be able to stream the EP with a little bit of commentary by yours truly. There are not enough words to say how proud I am of the label and this release, so please go down and listen to everything below.

Stream The Hermits Self-Titled Album

We love putting out really amazing albums, really amazing ones. Just this week we’ve got the Hermits self-titled album dropping on a beautiful green cassette! It’s filled with these scuzzy pop songs that are bound to get stuck in your head from the minute you press play. You don’t believe me? Listen to “Ruby Red Summer,” a song so good it will ruin the rest of your day…as you’ll likely listen to nothing else. The band celebrate the release of the new LP this Thursday over at Cheer Up Charlies with The Oysters, Nevil and Being Dead. Flesh Lights has long been a favorite of ATH, it was cemented for me when they opened for Thee Oh Sees (the old name) at La Zona Rosa. Remember, I said a long time favorite. I know we were happy as hell to put this record out. Elissa came out from the drum kit, the band donned Bandanas to do a rousing edition of “Institutionalized”

I love a good house party. I have experience with warehouse parties (don’t remember some of them). I love a party in a backyard. I am fond of parking lot parties, too. Plenty of friends joined us for shenanigans at the loading dock at Fine Southern Gentlemen. Flesh Lights had Werewolf and Dregs join in.

Bones Garage Share New Single

As a web site, we cover stuff from all over the globe, but as ATH Records, we’ve mostly focused our attentions at home in Austin. Then I heard this new album from Bones Garage, and was floored, so I reached out to the band hoping they’d let me put out a tape for Oi Ma Yeah. They complied, so here I am sharing the newest single from the group; the expansive “Homo Sapiens Love.” While the first two singles were straight pop material, this track spans over 6 minutes, working back and forth between post-rock and thoughtful pop. Ambient moments and buzzsaw guitars ring out, though the band uses their patience to calmly tease out the track’s pop sensibility, which floats in with this light guitar bit. I could probably write about this track forever, and never cover all the finer details, so see below for yourself! The album drops March 29th, but if you’re looking for acts to catch at SXSW, pencil this bunch in your schedule.

Every year, we gather with our frienemies over at Side One Track One, and throw down a huge show over at Hotel Vegas/Volstead. As is the case every year, we have 30 bands from all over Austin, and a few on the ATH Records roster. When we set up this years show, we wanted to make sure the bands all had new music on the way in 2019…and that seems to be the case. Really stoked to see our friend Ram Vela return to the stage with his new band. Plus, ATH acts the Hermits, Being Dead and She Sir sharing their new tunes!

Here Comes Being Dead

If you’ve been hanging in and about Austin for the last year, you’ve likely heard the name Being Dead; we’ve written about them several times over the last year, excited by their growth and creativity. Luckily for us, they asked if we could help get out their new 7″/EP, which, of course, we gladly jumped at! And now, the band have shared the standout tune “Apostle’s Prom” off said release. The track employs both Juli and Cody on vocals, while the video has them dueling…until they realize their shared love of horses. She Sir Announces Ways a Season

For years I’ve begged She Sir to work with them; we never managed to make it work, until now. I’m really excited to share a new single from She Sir, as well as welcome them to ATH Records for the release of Ways a Season. This track exemplifies the band’s direction on their latest release, aiming to elevate their brand of pop music to the highest echelons of art. Plus, the art matched with the vinyl is ridiculously beautiful (orange 12″, if you’re asking). David Israel Album Release Party @ Electric Church on Sunday Night

Sorry for the long-winded post title, but maybe that’s all your looking for! But, important information is at hand, as I’m hoping to direct you to the Electric Church on Sunday to celebrate the release of David Israel‘s The Year That Felt Like Two; we dropped it two weeks ago on ATH Records. For starters, the record is amazing, as is the artwork, so that should really be enough, if you’re an Austin music fan. But, a portion of proceeds will be donated by David and ATH directly to RAICES. Along with David and his band, you’ll also get to see El Lago, who I raved about previously, as well as Minimal Animal and TC Superstar. Stream the latest video from the album below; it ran over on RSTB earlier this week.

Doors are at 8, so be on time and we’ll see you there.
