Stream War Tuna from The Lochness Mobsters

wartunaIt’s been a pretty good month for ATH Records, with our releases of Rose Selavy/Templo X split 7″, the Ocean Party announcement, and of course, the debut of The Lochness Mobsters.  Things rolled along pretty quickly, and while the Austin trio is out on the road, we wanted to make sure the rest of you folks were able to hear their excellent debut, War Tuna.  There’s touches of surf, garage, soul, pop, garage, and ultimately just good times. You can stream the jams below, and grab your own copy on all white vinyl HERE or HERE. Also, if you happen to be living out on the East, check this spot for their TOUR DATES. Austinites can welcome them home to the Grand on August 30th.

ATX Spotlight: New Single From The Villas

3f6e6135-d24f-4d63-b579-c334ace310f2I’ve been talking about Austin based The Villas since what seems like our very beginnings oh so long ago.  With that said, you should definitely expect me to share new tunes from the band immediately after I receive them.  Such is the case today with this brand new single “Julie”.  It seems like a more grown up sounds from the band as they’ve gone a little bit more subdued and progressive with their take on the pop genre.  Yet another great song from one of our most promising local bands.

Stay tuned as we get more information about the band’s upcoming release.

Sloppy Rocker from Vamos + Austin Show @ Hotel Vegas

vamosI don’t know too much about Vamos, other than the Chicago trio just recently released a blast of a record, Spiderbait.  It’s this meld of punk rock with bits of sloppy party rock thrown in; it’s basically the sound of three guys blasting out a good time.  It’s one of those songs you just want to turn up real loud, bounce around your room and sing into your hairbrush (is that just me?). The group will be blowing into Austin on August 26th (Hotel Vegas) to support the record, so I wanted to make sure those locals that follow us are keeping an eye on what’s coming their way. The rest of you can find their LP on Maximum Pelt Records.

ATX Show Spotlight: Austin Bands Play Siamese Dream @ Holy Mountain – TONIGHT

It’s Thursday, and you’re winding down your week.  I think it’s probably best that you go spend it over at Holy Mountain watching some great musicians play Smashing Pumpkins‘ Siamese Dream from front to back.  It’s a cool idea, and even cooler since the acts playing will be made up of members of Que Pasa, She Sir, Major x 3, Alex Napping, Lunar Gold, Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Ringo Deathstarr and more. And, as if one of our favorite venues wasn’t going to be filled with some of our favorite people wasn’t enough for you, it’s absolutely FREE.  You have no excuse.

ATX Show Spotlight: Rose Selavy @ Cheer Up Charlies

rose_selavy_bandIt’s Monday night, so why not start off your week with some of the best pop music the city has to offer…not to mention, it will be FREE!  Cheer Up Charlies is hosting San Antonio’s Hypersleep, but the bill will be book-ended by some of our favorite locals, Rose Selavy and Ultraviolet.  Did I mention that Rose Selavy also has a 7″ coming out this week on our ATH Records?  I mean, this will be the best chance to preview the band’s work before you head out and grab your own copy.  If you’re not in town, that 7″ can be found HERE.  So, come out and hang tonight and enjoy some indiepop delights.

ATX Spotlight: More New Rain Collectors

rainWe were fortunate enough to premiere the first Rain Collectors single of the year, and now the charming Austin duo has another tune for you all to enjoy. Santiago, who plays in other well-known ATX acts like Growl takes the lead for the opening moments of the track, then trading places so Blair, of AMA, can come in and do her thing…only for the two to unite during the chorus.  Honestly, there’s probably lots of little musical nods they’re making, but you can’t pinpoint just one sound, making the group sound utterly refreshing whilst still feeling wholly familiar. Let’s keep our focus on these guys as they continue to charm their way into our constant listening rotation.

ATX Spotlight: New Letting Up Despite Great Faults Jam

Letting Up Despite Great FaultsI was out of town, so I should have been on this tune already.  We love Letting Up Despite Great Faults, and we’re always here to support those guys (and gal)…thus why I’m putting up this instrumental jam that they’ve recently released.  I hope it means the group are backing in the studio working their way towards another release, which can only mean good things for Austin. Seems like a pretty good way to wrap up what’s been a good case of the Tuesday’s in my book, so enjoy yourself as we close the day out with a little local love.

ATX Spotlight: New Ghetto Ghouls Album On the Way

11700543_915848105139667_5739135878276486396_oIf you’re an Austin fan, or really just a fan of good rock n’ roll, then surely you’ve heard the great work Austin’s Ghetto Ghouls have been putting out the last few years.  They’ve got several releases with some of the best labels in town (12XU and Monofonus Press), and they’re set to release Collisions, their new effort, on Monofonus next week. The first single we’ve heard perfectly encapsulates the band’s live sound, with tenacious swirling guitar chords wrapping themselves around the emphatic vocals of frontman Corey Anderson.  Not only does the band have an incredible new song, but they’ve got a great release show planned for August 1st at Hotel Vegas with Flesh Lights, US Weekly and Decider.

ATX Spotlight: New Tune from Ramesh

RameshWe’ve made no secret of adoration for former Voxtrot frontman, Ramesh.  We even went so far as to help make sure you could grab his first solo LP on vinyl (it’s right HERE).  He’s one of my favorite songwriters, period, and he recently sent me a tune he worked on with his friend Emeen. There’s some great arrangement work on this track, highlighted with Ramesh’s careful vocal and a swelling sound pushed forth by the piano.  No word on if this is just a one off, or if Ramesh is going back in the studio to bring you his second album, but we’ll let you know as we do. Now you can enjoy your Friday with this great tune.
