Brand New Daniel Francis Doyle and the Dreams

Daniel Francis Doyle has been one of my favorite Austin musicians for quite some time. He’s always been a unique part of the fabric of this town, whether that’s his looped projects, his bass in Deep Time or his current project Daniel Francis Doyle and the Dreams. Today’s shared single opens with ambient noise, like the onslaught of the tides washing upon the shore. But, at the 40 second mark, the song turns into a pulsating ditty where synths and guitars dance about your ears as Doyle delivers his vocals; I love the way he seems to let his voice rise and fall, depending on the emphasis of the note/lyric…like the stop right before the 2 minute mark. It’s too arty for dance music, but too good to ignore. Look for Unrecognizable on February 15th via Self Sabotage Records.

Here Comes Being Dead

If you’ve been hanging in and about Austin for the last year, you’ve likely heard the name Being Dead; we’ve written about them several times over the last year, excited by their growth and creativity. Luckily for us, they asked if we could help get out their new 7″/EP, which, of course, we gladly jumped at! And now, the band have shared the standout tune “Apostle’s Prom” off said release. The track employs both Juli and Cody on vocals, while the video has them dueling…until they realize their shared love of horses. She Sir Announces Ways a Season

For years I’ve begged She Sir to work with them; we never managed to make it work, until now. I’m really excited to share a new single from She Sir, as well as welcome them to ATH Records for the release of Ways a Season. This track exemplifies the band’s direction on their latest release, aiming to elevate their brand of pop music to the highest echelons of art. Plus, the art matched with the vinyl is ridiculously beautiful (orange 12″, if you’re asking). Press Play on that Fanclub EP

We’ve been raving over Fanclub since there was a Fanclub. And now, we want you to turn your attention to the band’s new All the Same EP, which is streaming on the Interwebs today. It contains the huge hits “Leaves” and “Strangers,” as well as bringing in a few new songs we hadn’t heard…at least in the recorded fashion. For a pigeonhole, imagine if Pains of Being Pure at Heart peeled back the distortion, added a little more danceable stomp and then traded Kip for Leslie. Those new songs are definitely destined to be as popular as the preceding singles; I love the dreamy quality that “Swear” offers up. You can head HERE to grab the latest release from Fanclub.

That New Video from Moving Panoramas

Austin folks love Moving Panoramas, and if you watch this video, you’ll see that Moving Panoramas loves Austin, or at least Hotel Vegas and Volstead. But, most importantly is that the song continues the band’s movement towards a pop-centric vibe akin to the recent stuff of fellow Austinites, Go Fever. They’re both writing these huge pop numbers, though MP presents there’s in this slightly dreamy realm; that gives a slight element of darkness or mystery, which listeners like myself find intriguing. This song appears on the band’s new album, In Two, which is being released on February 22nd by Modern Outsider.

Smiile Release New Tunes

Smiile have graced these pages many a time, so it’s always nice to have the band return to our pages, especially with brand new music. This number has Jake taking the song’s central focus, both in the accompanying video and the vocals. He’s got this voice that sounds light in presentation, but heavy in tone; it’s sort of the vibe the whole song offers listeners. There’s this natural light to the song that seemingly seeps through, though perhaps that’s just the “mystical” aspect vibing through my speakers at the moment. But, the one thing missing (if you can even say that) is the perfect foil to Jake’s voice. You can hear that in the second track the band released! And because they’re from Austin and we love them…both videos are below! Look for a new EP this Spring.

Another Hit from Go Fever

I’ve always enjoyed Go Fever, but if there’s an Austin band that I’m pulling for this year, it’s them! They already dropped one anthemic gem of a pop tune, and with their latest single they don’t look to stop. Acey walks into the song with this seemingly sullen attitude; it’s a cool effort, though you get the feeling by the increased paced of the percussion that we’re in for more. Suddenly you’re thrust into this twirling chorus, dizzying in its pop sensibility, bordering on over the top. But, therein lies the brilliance…they bring cool back to saccharine that hits home for us all. The group should have a new effort coming right around the corner.

Austin Stories: Sour Times by Jared Boulanger

I’ve enjoyed my ACL and SXSW Gimme 5 playlists from artists so much that I’ve decided to start running some at random times during the year. Well not totally random, as I plan to focus on artists coming through Austin soon to help build up some hype for their show. It’s also interesting for me to find our what other musicians are listening to before, or even after their show. Here Come the Hermits on ATH Records

Hey, end of the year time and we’re looking forward towards our label side of things in 2019. We’ve got several releases planned, and we’ve already announced a cassette with Tel Aviv’s Bones Garage…and so we should also share will be doing a tape with The Hermits! You’ll be able to pre-order it HERE, but I figured we’d share one of the song’s from the record; “Ruby Red Summer” originally appeared on Tour Tape EP. It’s a rad jam, rocking and teasing the listener until the huge hook in the end is released through your speakers. You like it? You want it? Go HERE.
