Second to Last Growl Show at Cheer Ups Tonight

Hopefully you all enjoyed listening to Growl throughout their time as a band…and those in Austin get a few more chances to see the band before they call it a day; one is tonight at Cheer Ups! A few of the members are moving on in life, chasing new opportunities outside of Austin, thus they’re amicably taking a break on Growl. We were happy to be part of that story by releasing Won’t You a few years back; you can stream it in its entirety below, with a link to your own copy HERE. They’ll be joined on stage tonight by Robby and Sherry who will kick things off when doors open at 9 PM. Come on out and enjoy what could be your last chance to see Growl.

Sun June Album Release Tonight at Spiderhouse

If you haven’t been reading the cool sites, then maybe you’ve missed the swirling hype surrounding Austin’s Sun June. Hype or not, we here at ATH can attest to the band’s talents, both live and recorded. Tonight they gather with friends and label mates to celebrate the release of their new album, Years; you can stream that whole LP right HERE. Daphne Tunes will kick things off, followed by the esteemed Julia Lucille. If you’re not fortunate enough to live in Austin, then go head over to our friends at Keeled Scales and grab yourself a copy there before it’s too late! Feverbones and Good Field Play at Cheer Ups Tonight

Hopefully you Austinites remember that we just recently released the wonderful debut LP by Feverbones, Dream Talk. Well, tonight you’re likely to hear a set including several of those tracks, as the band take the stage with their friends (and ours), Good Field. But, rest assured, they aren’t the only bands, with Linen Closet and My Golden Calf also gracing the stage tonight. A bunch of really talented local acts ready all together to help ease your Hump Day ills? You betcha! See ya’ll there! Doors are at 9 PM!

Another One From White Denim

Austin, TX royalty White Denim announced a long awaited new LP last month and the city, along with many in the music scene, are excited for the band’s return. We’ve already heard first single “Magazin” and today the band is treating us with this second new track called “It Might Get Dark”. Compared to the more glam vibe of the first single, this one has a bit more of a southern rock, circa mid 70s sound. Welcome back boys.

As previously mentioned, White Denim will release new album Performance on June 19th via City Slang Records.

Austin, TX based band The Sour Notes have long been in the music game in our town and have long been talked about on ATH. With that said, you now understand when we receive new music from the band, it’s going up on our website. Well our good amigo Jared just sent over a new single/video from his band and we are the first to share it with the world. You’ll find the rocking and rolling new single “Welcome to the Club” below. The Austin music scene is alive and well.

New Track from Why Bonnie

We were fortunate enough to have Why Bonnie play our SXSW show this year; they wowed us and the many in attendance, assuring their steady rise. And after their In Water EP, the band are ready to drop 5 more tunes for you. Our first listen has the band offering up a more billowy dream number, casually letting the guitars build into this huge wall of atmospherics behind Blair’s stellar vocal performance. It’s great to see the band building on their early success and fleshing out their sound even more. If this band isn’t on your radar already, I don’t know how to help you. But, Nightgown will be out on cassette courtesy of Sports Day Records on June 20th.

Sungod Announces New LP

Austin’s Sungod have just announced the release of a new full length titled Wave Refraction; it’s of course being released by powerhouse label Holodeck Records. The lead single from the LP is “Hypnotism,” which features the digitally hypnotic video we’ve got streaming below. When turning to the music, perhaps you’d be best served to combine two elements of modern indie that we’re all familiar with at this point. One, you’ve got the instrumental electronica that all Holodeck fans love: two, you’ve got this Grizzly Bear underbelly beneath. It ends up leaving you with this blissed out expansiveness, like traveling through space, or so I imagine. The album will drop on August 24th.

Golden Dawn Arkestra Drop New Tune

For awhile now, Golden Dawn Arkestra has captivated Austin (and beyond) with their live performances. Their latest single from their forthcoming LP seems to capture that spirit in the video; they somehow manage to capture the bizarre in the most splendid fashion. Musically, this seems like the apex of their powers, bringing a sort of acid-infused psychedelia that rises and falls in all the right spaces. As the song fades away, the lyrics almost seem like an afterthought, with the slight occurrence of brooding pop lurking just beneath the song’s surface. The band will drop their latest Children of the Sun via Nine Mile on June 1st.
