Skeggs Share New Single + Share US Dates

I still can’t get “Bunny Man” out of my head right now, so getting a new track from Skeggs is never a bad thing. They’ve got a few singles out today, but this one just drops in this sick hook that I want to run on repeat. I love the way the band toys with the tension, never quite letting me into the tune, until they drop the drums and the chorus into play. I know they’ve probably been thrown into the garage meets punk category, but dammit if this isn’t one of the best pop rock writing acts out there right now. Plus, the video features drummer Jonny training to run a marathon, fueled by the support of his bandmates. The band will also be playing a slew of dates on the West in Mid-April as preparation for their Coachella set!

RayRay and I are both huge fans of Aussie outfit Skeggs, and today the band just drop one of those rippers that you can’t get out of your head; it feels like the sort of anthemic arena rock that everyone who loves a good jam could get behind. Despite the heavy riffs that kick it off, it quickly takes those tones and turns them really light and sunny, which lends itself well to the overall hook. Plus, the video is an homage to the band’s touring manager Bunny Man, and they’re donating all money made from this song to their entire tour crew. So, not only is it a killer pop rock jam, but it’s also got good sentiment. This goes out to all the crews out there!

More Music From Good Morning

Melbourne based lads Good Morning have really been getting out attention over the last several years with a steady stream of solid releases and singles. Just last month, Nate the Tank shared with you the bands latest single, “burning”, and it’s caused quite a stir around the ATH offices about the upcoming new LP. With the release date for Barnyard now drawing near, I suggest you check out this new track, “depends on what i know”, if you have yet to tune your ears towards their sound. You should enjoy the simplicity of Good Morning’s brand of indie rock while appreciating the slickness of the bass lines and groovy, laid back nature of the song. Now you know.

Tam Vantage Shares New Track, The Zone

Tam Richards Matlakowski plays on all your favorite Aussie records, or at least on all of my favorite Aussie records. But, today, we’re dropping another single from his own work as Tam Vantage. Having listened to various projects Tam’s been a part of, his solo effort, at least per these first two singles, is taking a heavier hand into studio. On these riffs, he almost feels angry, driving the song forward forcefully, creating this sort of all-encompassing darkness, this shadow closing in around you. But, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, courtesy of the vocals; they offer just a glint of light, melody hanging on the horizon. His new record, Laughing Gas & Apple Pie will be out on November 5th.

Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton Share Authenticity

I was all prepared for a really forlorn vibe to course through the whole of this last single from Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton; honestly, you get this intimate listen to Lachlan here, just working his voices over a really light strum. At :51 seconds, he’s joined by Emma, carefully, then letting a percussive element join them, giving the song just the faintest little bob and bounce. There’s this carefully ornate guitar line soloing after the 2 minute mark that’s absolutely charming, setting Denton up for this incredibly powerful wail that just crashes into you with such brutal force that I’m pretty sure a tear came to my eye. Something is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say is out this Friday!

Power Supply Share Let’s Do This and Let’s Do That

While everyone’s clamoring for that glorious Mellencamp and Springsteen collaboration, why don’t you turn your ears towards something just a little bit hipper, just a little bit more stylish…the new tune from Power Supply. Leon Stackpole has a very matter of fact delivery on this new tune, like a classic bard turning stories into song. The song itself has a little bit of an almost country twang, almost a little boogie to it; this is maybe what Bob should have sounded like when he first plugged in that electric guitar. There are some special moments I’ve been pulling for, like the line starting with “watching, watching the water flow by” just before the 2 minute mark…its a nice little calmed melody that’s soothed my ears for sure. The band drop In the Time of the Sabre-Toothed Tiger on October 22nd via Goner Records.

Exclusive Album Stream: The Smallgoods – Lost in the Woods

It’s been almost 15 years since The Smallgoods dropped their last album, but with Lost in the Woods scheduled to hit Friday, we were fortunate enough to snag an early listen to the record for you. When we first brought you news of the band’s forthcoming LP, we said that the band aimed to drop bold pop rock, railing against a stale musical climate! While I love the record’s opener, I think a great way to sample the goods from this album is to jump to track two, “Where’ve You Been All This Time;” I’ll go out on a limb here and say this sounds like Dear Catastrophe Waitress era Belle and Sebastian, swelling with arranged sounds and striking power. But, things aren’t always full of bombast; I’m totally in love with “Satellite;” it feels like the perfect pop song and thus I dare you to find a better one to have on repeat today. Shit, now I can’t stop pressing play on “A Month of Sundays;” this record is filled with twists and turns, each equally rewarding. Just imagine yourself on a scavenger hunt of every great pop sound in the last 30 years, but instead of tripping over 30 years of songs, you’ve got the only 10 tunes you’ll need today! Lost in the Woods drops Friday via Lost and Lonesome.

Methyl Ethel Wants You To Dance

Jake Webb is an Australian based musician who records under the moniker Methyl Ethel, and if you are unfamiliar with his work, well I’m not sure where you’ve been. Webb has a slew of indie pop music to his credit and seems to be uninterested in ever slowing down the massive output. Earlier this year we shared the track “Neon Cheap” and now Webb is back again with this incredible, dance inducing song “Matters”. This is likely some of the most upbeat and poppy of any track we’ve ever heard from Methyl Ethel and I dig the progression of these sounds over the years. Enjoy this one as we slide into the long weekend.

 

 

Fun Rocker From the Mess Makers

Just figured I’d start off today getting us rolling with this tune from a minute ago that rolled in from the Mess Makers. It’s this minute long punk jam, but it kind of reminds me of the spirit of the Modern Lovers; its just good old fashioned rock n’ roll, with just the slightest hint of a hook hanging out in there. And, it’s a nice little kick in the face early in the morning, which is what we all need, eh? So, if you are up to punch dance across your bedroom, turn up this tune, then spend some times with the band’s Wipe Your Face LP.

Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton Announce New Album

Two of my favorite songwriters have teamed up once again! Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton (Pop Filter) have reunited for another record, which based on the first single, will likely be filled with charming pop numbers you’ll play time and time again. We open here with this jangling piano line, something akin to a classic rock feel with Lachlan narrating the storyline. Quickly, guitars begin to ring a bit more, there’s a swell and suddenly Emma joins in to lift the song’s spiritual connection. The song travels back to another verse/chorus before the rest of their friends join in the fun to “take solace” in the togetherness. They’ve titled the new record Something is Going to Change Tomorrow, Today. What Will You Do? What Will You Say, and its out on October 8th via the always reliable Bobo Integral/Spunk Records/Osborne Again.
