Chapter Music Share Another Single from the Particles Reissue

Slow days mean you can dive to the bottom of your emails and pick out the true gems, like this track from the Particles. You can immediately hear why everyone in our circle is so excited to get their hands on this 1980s Bubblegum reissue. A nice little shuffling guitar line runs underfoot, with the bob and weave from the bass lines while the drums play it extra snappy. It all reaches its apex when you toss it in with the candied vocals, just in case you needed something to sweeten the deal here. In addition to this single, Chapter Music have also made two other tracks available, giving you a total of 5 tunes to hear for those who are just being introduced to the charms. The reissue will be available on July 7th, with US folks able to grab it from Seasick.

Wireheads Share Killer Bee

Dammit if this song from Wireheads hasn’t seeped into my subconscious, haunting all my listening for the rest of the day. When I first heard this track, I immediately felt like it sounded like what the Television Personalities could have evolved into had they come of age in the last few decades. There’s this brilliant bit of light jangling, , but it’s totally relaxed on the couch jangling, like it knows just how cool it fucking sounds. While the indifference is enchanting, the seduction comes in the way the vocals combine to churn out these little sparkling melodic diamonds for your ears. If you think this song is as rad as I do, then by all means, grab their new LP, Potentially Venus from Tenth Court on June 23rd.

Lakes Region Share Echo, Drop Vital Signs

I am a little late to the game on the latest release from Australia’s Lakes Region, but I aim to rectify my error by sharing one of my favorite tunes from the new Vital Signs LP. “Echo” lives in the dream pop realm, with these swirling guitars filtering through your speakers like wisps of smoke. Pete Bridle’s voice, however, unlocks the secrets the song, coming across like a last grasp of grandeur, one more attempt to stretch the melodies into the beyond. This is what you’ll get through and through on Vital Signs, a record that feels like its slow burning along the edges, leaving these glowing little embers of warm pop.

Twine Share My God Single

Please do not let those gentle string pieces opening this Twine track fool you; there’s a danger lurking, hanging just on the edge of those discordant guitar licks in the background. Listening to this Aussie outfit reminds me of this sort of sweet spot between Frightened Rabbit and Cursive; it has this quality that borders on both strikingly beautiful and explosive at the same time. But, just as easily as they can explode through your speakers, they can pull it all back and keep the vibe succinct so you’re constantly being pulled bag and forth, like a tug-o-war between light and dark. You know, just another exciting outfit from Australia, courtesy of Kitty Records.

RVG Return with Common Ground Video

I am back with another piece in my ongoing series titled “Everything That RVG Does;” today, we have the latest video from the Aussie group’s forthcoming Brain Worms album. When I first heard this song, the guitar tones caught my ears instantly; they take on those Oceanic ringing notes perfectly. But, Romy drops in this great tonal change at the 1:39 mark, and I have to tell you that it’s one of those powerful moments you might not even notice until the 3rd or 4th time through. Blink and you’ll miss it, so go back. Honestly, the space left in this song to fill with emotive vocals really does the trick; it’s one of my top two tracks on the record. If you’re enjoying the one, don’t forget Brain Worms is out on June 2nd via Fire Records.

Expensive Music Band Sing About Cool Aunty

Expensive Music Band was not quite on my radar until this year, but now I can’t help but to just turn on a single when it comes our way, like this latest single, “Cool Aunty.” This go round we find the band in slow-burning fashion, regaling us with an homage to all the strong bad-ass women that influence us, and our children. I love how the band seems to employ an almost surf meets garage vibe, though they’re elevating it beyond even what I expect. There’s lush arrangements throughout the tune, leading the listener through a sort of ceremonious version of rock n’ roll; you’ll also find some syllable playfulness from Troon Lienad that’s absolutely marvelous. Pencil in Things to Say at a Barbecue for your listening pleasure; it drops on June 16th via Exclusive Culture/Permanent Slump.

Shrapnel Share Catch You Out; Ready New LP

Having already covered Mope City this week, it only makes sense that I include another project featuring members: the much loved, Shrapnel. The last time we heard from them was when they dropped Alasitas back in 2021, but it sounds like they’ve got another LP ready to go later this year. “Catch You Out” drops in with this heavy rock riff, working in some of that glam-psychedelia stomping; it soon fades away to allow this steadied cool, something that sounds like it would have come from a post-Elephant 6 act. Sure, there’s an assertive bravado to the way the riffs ring out, but even as they’re reverberating around my room, I can’t help but harp on the natural charm, calling to mind heavy guitar poppers like TFC and the like. I’ll keep you posted as I hear more about their new LP!

Mope City Ready Population 4

I remember when I first stumbled upon Mope City back in 2019 when they were prepping New From Home; I was really taken aback, feeling like there wasn’t anyone creating this sort of slow-core dramatic rock n’ roll. Obviously, I’ve been a bit more in tune with that the last few years, but Mope City is still one of my favorite acts blending these darkened musical narratives. Before they release Population 4, the band have tossed out a little teaser, which feels ominous in its opening moments; the first bit of playful vocal interplay also adds a hint of danger. Still, despite the gloomy nature, the band somehow manage to favor these brief little moments of pop structure that give you just enough of a taste to keep you thirsty for more. The album will be out via Tenth Court later this year!

Wireheads Share Hook Echo Video

I was immediately hooked on the latest track from Wireheads, particularly when that riff just drops in out of the ambiance and delivers that crunchiness I crave. Having been mostly quiet since 2017’s Lightning Ears, this definitely seems like the band have returned without missing a beat, keeping that edge and tenacity in the songwriting. What I appreciate here, however, is that you get this little curl of cool from Dom Trimboli’s steadied vocal delivery; the band add backing vocals in just the right spots, allowing the syllables to latch onto the faintest hook and keep pop elements lurking in the group’s work. Sure, there’s jagged edges on the surface, but crack through and you’ll hear a band centered on writing playful pop songs like all the rest! If you’re digging it, then be sure to check out Potentially Venus, the newest album out June 23rd via Tenth Court Records.

RVG Share Midnight Sun Video

Are you tired of me talking about the new RVG record? Well, too bad! There’s a brand new single out today, which really encompasses the vibe that courses through the whole of the record. When the song drops in, you get this slightly jangling post-punk riff; it sets up the song’s underbelly, but that’s not really where the success of the tune lives. For me, Romy’s voice takes the track to this near arena-rock anthemic level; they push the chorus to these levels that drip with passion and pain, which is perhaps one of the reasons I’m so inclined to fall in love with their work. It’s like the whole of their new LP, Brain Worms, has just leveled up in your favorite video game; they’re at the top of the game, which you’ll hear when the album hits on June 2nd via Fire Records.
