Folksy Perfection From Golden Daze

We’ve been fans of the psych-folk-pop of Golden Daze for a few years now, so I’m stoked to hear/see that they’ve announced a new LP and shared the beautiful “Blue Bell” with us. This go round, it seems that the duo of Ben Schwab and Jacob Loeb have toned down the psych a bit and explored the quiet folk route. There’s this utter wistfulness/nostalgic quality to this song and the video; the two gentlemen of the group sit a-la Simon & Garfunkel with their guitars, their voices just barely whispers. The song builds layer on layer to its end and I’m completely smitten with hearing the track grow. Warning, “Blue Bell” may cause repeated listening.

Golden Daze will release their new LP, Simpatico,on Autumn Tone on February 15 of next year.

More New Music from Gold Star

I can’t help but fall for the cinematic appeal of Gold Star, especially once you hear this brand new single from Marlon Rabenreither’s project. Honestly, I could see this being the centerpiece of some great Cameron Crowe movie; it pulls at every heartstring from the moment Marlon’s voice comes through the speakers. The simplistic approach of great chords and mild percussion really allows each note to stretch out across the track; and, while it may be simplistic, I don’t feel like there’s too much out there that pulls this sound off. Gold Star will release Big Blue on March 24th via Autumn Tone.

More Music from Muuy Biien

muybienMuuy Biien has been on our radar for some time, fed to us by one of our Athens connections. That being said, they’re taking on a new approach, at least in regards to their last few singles. There’s more creativity, playing on this track with a darkened tone over a piano backbone. In that, however, the band holds true to their past aesthetic, but loses some of the fuel and energy that made them so exciting…this is new territory. When Age of Uncertainty hits on October 28th, I get the feeling that we’ll get something refreshing from the band; it’s actually exciting to hear a band you love totally switch it up on you.

Drifting Psych Pop from Golden Daze

goldenBe it the cover or the song itself, everything about this track screams psychedelic nod. Lucky for Golden Daze the execution is pretty spot on, and has just enough of a hint of pop accessibility to push it into my stream of listening. There’s a steady drift to the track, coming in all directions from the vocals, guitar sound and the song’s overall pacing. Something pleasant breaks through the song in the end, begging you to play it again and again, which is always a positive sign for any listener. Look for the group’s debut self-titled album on February 19th via Autumn Tone.

Strange Faces Define Lo-Fi

Stonerism is due out on December 11th via Autumn Tone Records.

Twin Peaks Offer New Tune

twinpeaksYou’ve got to appreciate a band with youthful exuberance, as that musical naivete allows for them to go their own direction.  Twin Peaks does just that with their latest single, incorporating various influences to create a hazy bit of guitar pop that’s sure to satisfy every listener.  Sure, the vocals could be just a touch cleaner, but I love the way the guitar lines seem to dance around, leading to the song’s abrupt ending.  The group’s album, Sunken, will pop up in stores on July 9th courtesy of Autumn Tone Records.  You’ll be pleased with yourself listening to this track.

New Electro-Pop From Calvin Love

Here’s a nice electro-pop themed tune called “Magic Hearts” from Cali based musician Calvin Love.  His music would be adequately described as bedroom pop with some wicked 80s style beats and spooky vocals to boot.  A debut LP entitled New Radar will be coming on November 6th via Autumn Tone Records.  We of course recommend that you see your local record store to make a purchase if you enjoy this one.

New Music From Roadside Graves

I’m sure some of you have already heard and enjoyed this new song from Roadside Graves “Love Me More”, but I wanted to share for those who had yet to hear it’s sweetness.  The song is a beautifully simple folk-rock style number that’s sure to get a couple tears from you softies.  Sometimes you people think we ATH staffers have no feelings so this song should show you that we do indeed have souls.  This new song will appear on the band’s upcoming LP We Can Take Care of Ourselves due out July 19th on Autumn Tone.
