When we got a call from our friends in LA outfit, Criminal Hygiene, we jumped at the champ to help them organize a show. Â We got a couple of our favorite local acts, Pharaohs and Big Bill to join in on the bill, thus cementing a great rock n’ roll party that everyone would enjoy. We know you’re all looking forward to the 4th of July and whatnot, but we want to give you plenty of time to plan your Sunday evening. Â We’re sponsoring a great little rock n’ roll show with a bunch of our friends, both in and out of town; it takes place at the Mohawk at 9 PM. Â Big Bill, one of our local favorites, is headlining the gig, and it’ll be one of your last chances to catch them before they embark on their big US tour. Â Also, rocking the night will be our favorites, Criminal Hygiene, who are coming all the way from LA to grace us with their presence; they’ll even be tending bar before the show at 6, so be sure to come hang out with the band. Â But, you better get there early to see Pharaohs, who’ve been banging out power-pop ditties for some time in our fair city, always winning us over. Â It’s sure to be a great night, so join us, please.
As we prepare for SXSW, let us not forgot all of the great local bands that will be performing all over town that week. Â I know some of us Austinites tend to stay away from our local friends since we see them so much during the year, but let’s at least promote their greatness to the world. Before you take off for the holiday, you probably want to get your last bit of rock n’ roll in, and there really isnt’ a hotter ticket in town than the line-up over at Spiderhouse Ballroom on Friday evening. You’ve got several of our Emerging Artists in Big Bill and Tele Novella rocking out, plus the incredible Love Inks performing their album that we put in our Top Austin Albums list for 2013. Plus, as if that wasn’t good enough, long-time act, Party Girls (formerly The Carrots) will be throwing things down too. And, for those of you that like to rock things in a more exciting style, party attire is encouraged. It’s going to be an all out musical extravaganza, and it’s only $10.

Those in Austin have surely taken note that the Austin music scene seems to have been on a high as of late, and 2014 is starting to look just as good for our local community. We wanted to take a little time out of your day to harp on some new acts, or acts that we expect huge things from in the upcoming year. They’re numbered in no particular order, just the five artists to look into. Feel free to disagree, and add on to this list so we know who else to keep an eye on. I completely expect a few of these artists to emerge beyond Austin and make some pretty heavy national waves as well.
When I first heard about Austin band Big Bill back in July, I immediately was taken by their catchy version of poppy, garage rock style of music. Â My love affair with the band was confirmed shortly thereafter when I saw the band live and was extremely impressed with their energy and tightness. Â Today the band just sent over this new track called “Juice U” that we deemed worthy of sharing with you guys. Â It’s pretty darn great.
This tune will be available on October 29th via a a split 7″ with fellow Austin band Basketball Shorts. Â You can pre-order that bad boy now on Fleeting Youth Records.

We were recently turned on to local band Big Bill so we deem it necessary to keep you informed on their shows and happenings around town. Â Friday night the band have put together one hell of a lineup at Spider House Ballroom featuring more fun power, pop punk than you could possibly imagine. Â The loaded lineup of course features our new boys Big Bill along with Mom Jeans, The Gone Begones, Basketball Shorts, and Penny Woolf. Â We hear that the joint will be rocking with drink specials, hot chicks, and plenty of rock n roll to ease you into a fun filled weekend. Â See ya there.

As previously mentioned, we’ve been striving hard to better represent this great city we live in with spotlights on some of our favorite up and coming musicians. Today I’m bringing you all a band called Big Bill that could be the newest and freshest bands we’ve over posted about in the Austin scene. These guys create would I would call quirky and weird punk rock music similar to maybe Terry Malts or No Bunny if those guys were even more weird. I find it irresistible. Below you can check out new song “Free Dumb” which appears on the bands latest and only release A Hard Days Bill (EP).
