Rocker From Shark?

10945857_10152496773606841_1340772088358167219_o (1)It’s been awhile since I last shared with you some new music from Brooklyn based outfit Shark?, so I’m excited to be giving you this new joint today.  This one is called “Hangnail” and is a true rock and roll number displaying some of the finest traits of the genre in one song.  You can almost feel the badass tendencies coming through the vocals and sludgy sounds on the track.

Shark? have a new EP entitled Becky and Debbie due out next week on Old Flame Records.

Upbeat Number from Life Size Maps

LSM_LP_Art_hiresYou’re probably tired of hearing about Brooklyn bands, but Life Size Maps seem to be offering something slightly different from your average fare.  The group is crafting pop music of the purest form, utilizing synth hooks and a chorus that will surely find a home in your subconscious.  You’ll tap your toes, you’ll sing along, and you’ll realize that the simplest route is sometimes the best.  Take a ride with these lads, and enjoy your day. Old Flame Records will be releasing the group’s self-titled LP during the first weeks of April.

Kick Friday off with Darlings

darlingIt’s Friday. Those in the ATX, and probably the rest of the world, have been bundled up, so we likely need some energy to get up and go today.  This new track from Darlings seems perfectly fitting, offering a solid guitar line that adds spirit to your day; I personally enjoy the noodling and discordant chords that are picked near the end of the song. Your day’s going to get better, so join us in our first listen to the band’s latest work; it is in preparation for their Feel Better LP, which is coming out on January 20th via Wild Canary Records.

Adios Ghost Give Us Another Hit

75159_540445102636607_944786907_n-e1359419170913Adios Ghost is a Brooklyn band I’ve posted about a few times in the past and I’m excited to be sharing a new single of theirs with you today.  Once again the band offers a full bodied sound that couldn’t possibly be described in one genre.  Maybe it’s folky style rock?  Or pop music?  Who cares, just check it out and enjoy the awesomeness.

Adios Ghost have this track and another one over on bandcamp for free!

Quirky Psych Pop from ONWE

10356266_593527770758839_7560360246708222537_nTo a certain degree, it’s hard to completely take the work of ONWE seriously.  There’s a silliness and oddity to his work (and personality if you believe the press); it puts the group in the same vein as Mac DeMarco and Ariel Pink if you ask me (I know you didn’t). Still, you put absurdities to the side, and you have this great piece of pop music that’s being built by the three piece.  Guitars curl in and out of the tune, keyboard spikes burst in and melody swirls around the “goo goo ga ga love” chorus.  This is definitely something that piques are interest as we look forward to an official release from the band in early 2015.

New Video & Single From Snowmine

Upload_Snowmine_2012_03_16-14_21_33After hanging with the boys in Snowmine at ACL this weekend, the band alerted us to a new single and video they had just put out to grow some excitement for their current tour.  The song is called “Tidal Wave” and features something a little different from the group than what we’ve heard in the past.  Our atmospheric tones are still present, but the instrumentation has been scaled back quite a bit with a sound that feels almost more r&b than it does pop.  Give it whatever label you want, this track will appeal to just about anyone.  Check it out after the jump.

Mesmerizing Number From Goodman

a2756225044_10Brooklyn based Goodman put out a majorly overlooked LP in February called Isn’t it Sad.  Today we’re pumped to be sharing with you the first new material since that release in the form of this brand new single “I Would Die”.  I’ll be honest here, I’m loving this track today and have likely listened to it 5 times in the last few hours.  It’s such a simple song that can seemingly evoke a multitude of emotions in the subtle delivery.  Melt.

Goodman has another new single called “Never” available for stream over on soundcloud.

Dream Pop from Lazyeyes

lazeIt’s always nice when a track comes your way that you get excited about, despite knowing little to nothing about the band.  It only took me a few seconds to sink my teeth into Lazyeyes, which is entirely due to the straight-ahead force the song employs from the opening moment.  That sound is in start contrast to the pop underbelly you’ll find while listening to this track; it’s nothing out of the ordinary, but you can’t keep a good song down.  Look for the band’s self-titled EP to fall into your hands later on in the calendar year.

Glam Light from Evil Arrows

evolI was looking for something a little bit softer on this Friday for your ears, so I’m lucky this tune from Evil Arrows came through to us.  Of course, it’s not entirely an ode to glam rock; there are touches of psychedelic endeavors here too, though I just love the sound of the guitars. It also doesn’t really seem to fit into any particular sphere of music, which is refreshing in and of itself.  Their new effort, EP 4, will be released on September 30th, and I think there’s definitely a need for you to give it a good solid listen.  See for yourself.
