Grazer Share New Track Without You

Melbourne couple Mollie and Matt started their musical project known as Grazer back in 2019 and have put out tons of noteworthy singles since. I’ve found something to like about all of those tracks over the last few years, but I am finding this new one, “Without You”, to really move the band forward with an even catchier and engaging sound. The song is so incredibly simple in it’s construction with sparse instrumentation, yet the track will definitely find its way into your head and warrant multiple spins. My soundtrack for today.

Matt Kivel‘s story took him through Austin for a time, and according to him, he was able to create ‘something very calm and still.’ Listening through to “Two Braids,” you can sort of grasp that sentiment in the song itself; at times, it almost feels like two separate songs carefully grafted onto one another. There’s this ambient piece, composed of light beats and little musical flourishes bubbling up now and then; this might be the most audible of the two pieces. Sitting just behind that, calmly, is Kivel himself, quietly letting his voice float notes out, though careful not to walk too far into the other piece. It’s a stunning number, one fitting the visual accompaniment. If you like it, keep an eye out for Last Night in America on May 10th via Cascine.

The Mary Onettes Drop New Tune

We’ve been writing about the Mary Onettes since their inception back in the 00s; we continue our support as the band ready the release of a new single this Friday. The central groove of this song is sensational, slowly cascading through your speakers with these little gurgles of bass bouncing in and out. Then the bread and butter for the band is they way they’ve always draped the vocals across the entire mix; they always sort of feel like atmospherics coating the musical instrumentation. This track will be released as a single by Cascine on Friday with a B-Side to boot!

Uplifting Jam from Yumi Zouma

Yumi Zouma just dropped this new song today, highlighting the band’s soft pop approach. The heartbeat of the song, almost has you dancing, but more so, it carries you away spiritually. There’s something calming about the way the synth work just hangs in the background, never really pushing too far in the front of the mix. In a world where the headlines are all about the vapid elite pop stars, it’s great to hear pop done the right way. Look for the band’s new album, Willowbank, on October 6th via Cascine.

What’s That? New Yumi Zouma!

yumiI’m in the middle of getting ready to throw a bunch of tunes on what I hope is the greatest playlist of my life (my own wedding soundtrack), and this new track from Yumi Zouma might just find a home there. There’s a pop-tastic innocence, and something in the vocal that recalls early Stars, though here it seems more bent for a club-banger. Listen closely for the subtle male vocal lurking far off in the latter half of the song…a special touch. Regardless, maybe it’s just the musical element, but something here’s so joyous I can’t stop playing it. Look for the group’s new effort, Yoncalla, on May 27th via Cascine.

Casual Electro-Pop from Yumi Zouma

yumiYumi Zouma are getting quite a bit of buzz in advance of their debut, Yancalla, and I think I’m ready to jump on the bandwagon. This has the sort of playful vibe that I really enjoy, especially in the vocals/lyrics; there’s an innocent simplicity that really allows you to focus on the groove laying in wait. As for that beat, that groove, it’s supremely understated, giving off an ultimate relaxed vibe. I just wanna grab a beer, sit on the porch at night and let this song play on repeat. Look for the LP via Cascine on May 27th.

Fresh and Dance-Ready Synth Pop From Yumi Zouma

12779160_975727142482154_8328477424095575516_oIt’s time to puton your dancing shoes and start doing some mild stretching so you don’t pull your back out when you bust out a shimmy for this new track from Yumi Zouma. This four piece have announced today that they’re releasing their debut album, Yoncalla, fairly soon in May, and with that news they’ve given us “Keep It Close To Me,” which is a simmering synth pop gem that calls for dancing. There’s something quite compelling about the minimalism of this song; the vocals are impossibly smooth and cool, while those beats pulse and build, giving out the simultaneous soothing and unsettling feeling. Take a listen and hear for yourself.

New Stuff From Chad Valley

HugoI am a fan. We are fans. Hugo Manuel’s Chad Valley project was a side deal from the band Jonquil. When I caught Chad Valley doing a fill-in set during SxSW several years ago, I forgot who I was there to see. I’ve since seen Hugo a few times as Chad Valley and once with Jonquil. Left happy each time.

So Chad Valley is back with a new song called “True”, the first single from Entirely New Blue, a ballad to dance pop bliss. Cascine is releasing the album and pre-orders are up now for for a midd-to-late September ship. Along with the album news, Chad Valley is headlining a North American tour, including a stop in Austin at Red7 on October 22.

Great New Single From The Mary Onettes

untitledA quick search here on ATH for The Mary Onettes will quickly yield a plethora of results telling you all you need to know about our love affair for the band.  Since the release of their 2014 album Portico, we haven’t heard much from the band so I was overjoyed today to hear news of this stellar single “Ruins”.  The track features some beautiful guest vocals from Selebrities leading lady Maria Usbeck combined with the typical brooding, snyth heavy bit of pop we’ve come to expect from the band.  Those looking for a take with you version of the new single can purchase an MP3 via iTunes.

Have A Nice Weekend With Yumi Zouma

Yumi ZoumaMy friend Mike Taylor turned on to this track during his show on Amazing Radio. He is the ex-Woxy guy that should be running radio in Austin. The guy can pick the jams. This one is slightly less jammy, but a wonderful song nonetheless.

This Australian/New Zealand based artist has a release on Cascine that you can stream on the Cascine SoundCloud page. You should listen to the whole thing, but here is one of the highlights, a song called “Riquelme”.
