Harry the Nightgown Sign to Dangerbird

Harry the Nightgown is a new duo out of the Cali scene, featuring Sami Perez of Cherry Glazerr/the Shes and Spencer Hartling. I think the two play really well off each other, reminiscent of the Babies in that facet, sort of two contrasting voices that somehow seem to fit together like a  wonderful little puzzle. The duo employ some minimal beats/synths to build their sound, and it works well, with some spots leaving tons of empty space in the track for the beats to remain minimal so that Perez can let her voice sparkle. Now that they’ve signed with Dangerbird, time will tell where they head from here!

ACL WE2 in a Nutshell

Another Austin City Limits is behind us boys and girls and it’s always a good time to reflect on the music and experiences from the weekend. I considered myself very lucky to spend more time out during Weekend 2 when the weather was a bit cold and then incredible. The rain was limited and refreshing, and the colder weather brought out everyone’s best ACL hoodie. Once again, fun was had by everyone in attendance and the music was killer. Hit the jump for a couple thoughts.

Show Pics: CHVRCHES @ ACL Live (4/29)

…with Cherry Glazerr.

So, I always love it when a more mainstream band, a band that started with blog buzz and blows up, goes out on the road and brings along another band in the middle of that arc. CHVRCHES‘ current run through the States has Cherry Glazerr opening. Development of the two bands, though, has been quite different. CHVRCHES started to to quick synthy blog buzz with a lead singer that was just figuring out how to be a front person. Cherry Glazerr started out with a front person figuring out how to have a band. Just as Lauren has become a comedienne and story teller, activist and focal point, Clementine has progressed from lo-fi fuzz into a guitar driven three-piece band leader that no longer just relies on energy and distortion, the songs progress and evolve settling into grooves, much tighter in delivery, but still paying homage to the soundcloud four track jams.

Austin City Limits Festival 2019 Lineup

Austin City Limits Festival has decided to hold on to the momentum established last year making some bold choices for artists from top to bottom. Guns and Roses are the truly random selection that will be either a spectacle or a spectacle; I’m hoping for the best, but the random thing would be seeing “Live Or Let Die” two years in a row with fireworks. Other artists we will be locked in on – The Cure, Idles, Tame Impala, Thom Yorke Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, The Raconteurs, FIDLAR, Cherry Glazerr, Men I Trust and randoms.

I am sure there will be more developments as we get closer. Wristbands on sale at 12pm CT. Let’s get weird.

Cherry Glazerr Shares Daddi

In the first 20 seconds of this brand new Cherry Glazerr tune, you quickly realize that Clementine and her posse are changing things up a bit…but really just a bit. You get 45 seconds of almost playful vocals and electronic beats; it seems to work with the nervous questioning of the lyrics at this point. But, then Creevy lets loose on the guitar, emphatically taking back control of everything; it could be a nameless narrator or it could be Creevy herself, but whoever comes out in the chorus is doing things on their own terms. I thought I loved the early stuff, but this is a really great song, balanced between hooks and the bravado that the band always bring to the live setting. This track will appear on the group’s new LP, Stuffed & Ready, which drops on Secretly Canadian on February 1st.
