Fast Execution Announces Menses Music

This seems like the Summer of Dandy Boy Records, having already dropped new music from Yea-Ming and Kelley Stoltz, they now move forward with a new release from Fast Execution. The return of fuzzy rock continues, but singer Alex Velasquez would love for it to be less of a boy’s club, so she’s trimmed it of its fat and offers up this melodic brand that’s short and to the point. Drums hang in the background adding a little bulk to the tune, though the energetic rush of hooks need little else to get stuck inside your head. Menses Music will be released on August 8th!

Fuck all the flair and glory of modern trends; I want good old fashioned rock n’ roll…the sort Kelley Stoltz is making. Don’t get me wrong, there’s something about Stoltz songwriting that continues to see him relevant, but the way he is playing within the confines of classic tricks really makes me love his work even more. You can hear the crunchy riffs, wether they’re offering that come hither feel or that anthemic burst that has arenas roaring, they just feel supremely huge to my ears. Extra little vocal hooks play into his charms too, which you’ll get in warm melodic doses throughout the latest jam. Just another reason to keep an eye out for La Fleur when it drops this coming Friday via Dandy Boy Records.

Another week and another excellent single from the forthcoming LP from Yea-Ming and the Rumours; it might be the last one we get to hear as I Can’t Have It All drops in two weeks! Sliding guitar notes open the track to a bit of a Western gallop; that’s only furthered by the sharp percussive bounce, giving the tune all the movement it needs. Yea-Ming comes in with this hazy vocal that settles on top, carefully building the melody into the tune; I love how it feels like it stays back far enough into the mix so that everything kind of mixes together all the way up to the monosyllabic bop that comes in the track’s latter half. I Can’t Have It All is out May 24th via Dandy Boy Records.

Something about this new single from Kelley Stoltz has me in my feelings today. You can hear something in the general feel of the guitars that almost feels like an old Mazzy Star tune; it has that cliche blanketing warmth to it, begging you to just spin your own chrysalis. Stoltz voice, as always, has that familiarity, yet keeps this sort of shadowy sensation as it lurks within the innards of the track, mesmerizing the listener as it pulls you in close. La Fleur is shaping up quite nicely; it drops on June 7th via Dandy Boy Records.

In case you weren’t aware, we’re really high upon the forthcoming Yea-Ming and the Rumors LP; we raved about So, Bird, so our expectations are really high for I Can’t Have It All. This song carries an airy effect to it, fitting perfectly into any playlist you might toss to a friend as the world begins to heat up. Heavy psychedelic tones hang in the guitars beneath, but Yea-Ming’s vocals have this perfect gallop to it that rides on the back of the driving percussive section. Up and down, a trot through a field of dreamy flowers and breeze-blown grasses will have you smiling until you get your hands on the new record. I’ll be completely honest, as I was fully unaware of Yea-Ming and the Rumours before the release of their last album, So, Bird; I found it one of the most charming listens of 2022, and still find myself going back to some of those tracks. Today, the group, led by songwriter Yea-Ming Chen, announces a fresh take, and one that aims to walk a fine line between “total sadness and extreme happiness.” You can hear that in the messaging on the first single, narrating a character realizing that despite our best efforts, it’s nearly impossible to get everything you want…and sometimes its okay to accept that and find comfort where you can. Those lyrics tend to lean towards a bit of solitude in a way, but I think the musical message carries a different weight to it. There’s a bit of buoyancy lurking, almost a spring, as if our narrator has taken the lesson, and opted to bound down the road towards life’s next test. Ever endearing, Yea-Ming and the Rumours are charting new territory, so be on the lookout for I Can’t Have it All, out via Dandy Boy Records on May 24th.

The Wind-Ups Announce Live In Oakland LP

Two albums full of incredible rock n’ roll should have already made the Wind-Ups a staple in the community of those who worship rock, but in order to cement their legacy, the group had put it all on the line. So, what did they do? They recorded a riotous live set at the Golden Bull, putting down 17 songs in 28 minutes; a feat that would have made Jay Reatard super proud. Today, we bring you the news that the now infamous show is being released via Dandy Boy Records; you can grab it HERE. But, as in rock n’ roll realms, you need a bit of a visual, so the brand have a fresh video for the live version of “You’re Not That Cool.” Growling guitars, thumping rhythm and a quick blast to your ears, perhaps a reminder to also go check out the LP it draws from, Happy Like This.

Kelley Stoltz Returns with Reni’s Car + New LP

Sadly, it sometimes we take our greatest artists for granted, and such is the life I fear for Kelley Stoltz. The songwriter has definitely been lauded, and maybe the fault is mine, so every time I hear new stuff, I circle back and jam out to Stoltz for a few days; I mean, honestly, the dude’s never written a bad tune, that I’ve heard. Hopefully we’re all hope on that train as we await La Fleur, a brand new LP from Kelley, dropping this Summer. For my two cents, there’s something in the songwriting that feels like a mixture between Glenn Donaldson and Robert Pollard, though with a bit more of a psychedelic bend on the guitar vibes. Plus, the song got a cool backstory, as he recants a tale of spending the day in the car of Stone Roses drummer Reni. Sounds like another classic jam if you’re asking me…La Fleur is out on June 7th via Dandy Boy Records/Agitated Records.
