Another Hit From Bad Moves

Nathan and I were both pumped when D.C. based outfit Bad Moves mad a triumphant return back in April of this year. They are such an easy band to root for with catchy indie rock/pop jams and a genuine feel good vibe from all of their music. This new track “Hallelujah” dropped this morning, and of course it simply had to be shared and played on repeat. Again, this band is so easy to get behind and I straight can’t see how you wouldn’t love the energy from this song. Please do stream it below.

Bad Moves will release this track as part of a new album entitled Wearing Out the Refrain which will drop on September 13th via Don Giovanni Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Stream Posmic’s Sun Hymns EP

Posmic is a relatively new band featuring members of Post Pink and Wildhoney, and their new Sun Hymns EP is officially available for your indulgence as you go on your day. It’s going to be impossible to pigeonhole the group, as each song on this EP seems to branch into varying genres, dabbling in elements of psychedelic pop or touching on fuzzy power pop or linking up with more modern notes. “Whirly King,” for instance, sounds like the band said “Parquet Courts are cool, but what if they made less spastic pop jams with dueling vocal melodies?” Then there are other tunes that feel like the band’s DC area locale bleeds into the tunes, such as on “Mynah Hymn.” And don’t miss out by jamming to a few tunes, as “Black and Blue” is one of the EP’s secret weapons! Sun Hymns is officially out tomorrow via Let’s Pretend Records.

Color Palette Share New Shooting Stars EP

It’s great to walk indoors from outside and find music matching the natural world; in this case, the heavy weight of the fog matches the latest release that came my way from Color Palette. The DC outfit just released their Shooting Stars EP, and this single below is the perfect way to sample their sound. On my end, it lives somewhere in that territory between slowcore and dream pop; it’s crafting this great expanse that has a natural ebb and flow, filled in by textural washes of guitars and synths that add to the tune’s vibe. There’s a sonic punch up in the chorus, with a slight backing vocal that brings up the volume, only to slink into this sexy little guitar turn that leads you back to the chorus. Give it all a listen, and tell me you don’t love it.

BRNDA Share Do You Like Salt

This is the year when that funky brand of post-punk and indifferent vocals seems to really be making its mark, and I mean that in the best way. Add DC’s BRNDA to the group, offering this art-laden pop grooviness to the mix; the vocal delivery has its very own hook to it, which allows the musical element to kind of take its own course. Little nuances pop up and disappear just as quickly, due mostly to the song’s brevity; the band come in and deliver a quick pop punch, then fade away and let you press repeat. If you dig it, you can grab the group’s Do You Like Salt from Crafted Sounds; it drops on August 20th.

Say Hi To Frass Green

D.C. based musician Joe Antoshak has worked for several years with his project known as Frass Green. Though originally a solo gig, Antoshak put together a 4 piece band under his moniker and has toured a bit around the D.C. area over the last year. Currently on the up and up, the band is also sharing more music online, starting with this sweet new track called “Hair”. It is an inspiring pop song built in the vein of garage rock with tons of energy and fun vibes to boot. If you are feeling this one, the band currently has a new album called For You streaming over on bandcamp. Enjoy!

Dot Dash Release Video for Unfair Weather

I’ve already encouraged you to go give Proto Retro a thorough listen, but in case you keep ignoring me, I’m going to continue to give you a healthy dosage of Dot Dash. They just dropped this mostly live footage video for album standout “Unfair Weather.” This track puts the group’s crystalline guitar pop tendencies on display…you know, the sort everyone whose anyone is trying to pull off these days. Plus, the rhythm section is always on point, which gives the guitar work space to sort of meander around the perfect harmony. Experimental Pop From Airhead DC

Washington, D.C. native Vishal Narang has been working on his project known as Airhead DC for several years now and he has just announced a new album under the moniker. Previewing the new material is this new single called “Honey-Colored Flame Blown Off My Candle” which is a delightful bit of melodic, experimental pop music. It’s like if Generationals had a bit more guitar and some fancy lady vocals as well. I dig.

Airhead DC will release new album Crush Hi on October 26th via Danger Collective Records.

Intrigued by New Light Beams

Light Beams came to my attention because of the participation of Justin Moyer, who plays in one of my favorite current acts, Puff Pieces. I’m even more intrigued because the apparent use of samples is all done sans laptops and click tracks…just operated by drum pads. It does give this single a slightly jittery vibe, but that seems to give off the vibe that this might be the natural progression left off since Q and Not U’s Power. Like the perfect blend between dance music and post punk…dance punk done right, if you will. Look for their self-title debut via Don Giovanni on September 22nd.

Say Hello To Queue

D.C. based group Queue is likely unfamiliar to most of you, but after you hear new single “Frontier”, you’ll likely want to know more. The new track is a warm bit of indie rock complete with slick and shiny guitars behind a solid female vocal performance. As I make this post, I’m delving into more of the band’s back catalog on soundcloud which is proving to be surprise after surprise of tasty tunes. Stay tuned for more information on this up and comer.
