Nap Eyes Share Demons Single

Leave it to Nap Eyes to take an old Alexander Pushkin single and weave it into modernity, as they do today with their musical take on Pushkin’s “Demons” poem. While it likely hasn’t been put to music before, the poem’s narrative nature fits perfectly into the realm the Nova Scotians have crafted; they’ve crafted this stunning elegance, almost as if it was meant as part of some ancient folk symphony. The tinkering piano and distorted ebbs add meaning to each little cranny of the tune, though it’s hard not to be Nigel’s voice, like a moth to the flame, it pulls you into the storytelling. Very few acts are crafting music in this matter, so feel free to raise your glass to these lads.

Pleased to Meet You: Alma Jette

To be fair, we’ve met most of the members of Alma Jette before; singer and songwriter Mary Bryce has long been featured on our site since her day sin Smiile. This new project, however, is huge in its approach, letting Bryce’s voice serve as the dominating force that billows through your speakers. That’s fitting, as the band’s debut LP, I Found a Reason, serves as a sort of coming-of-age, with Mary finding the footing with the power that we’ve all known was there all along. This track, recorded live, features some other great musicians from our old ATX scene such as Will Maxwell and Alex Riegelman (Big Bill), leading us to believe that we’re all in store for a powerhouse debut performance from Alma Jette.

Another Rad Red Channel Tune

I feel like I could listen to Red Channel every day. The LA act just shared another tune from the redone and soon to be reissued Crazy Diamonds EP (the EP originally came out in 2018), and dammit if it’s not a jam and a half. It’s got this sure-fire punk vibe, especially with the way some of the vocals are delivered, but beneath it, there’s this soulful nod to R&B/doo-wop that gives the track an undeniable catchiness. Plus, the rhythm section is spot-on throughout the entirety of the track, particularly the bass work bumping in and out during the verses. This song is fire! The whole EP drops on April 19th via Upset the Rhythm.

Quirky 50’s Inspired Indie Rock From Summer Twins

11289600_10153347140259210_4601142706655711543_oEveryone knows every good indie rock song can be made even better with twee organ sound running through the whole thing, and Summer Twins are on that same train of thought. “Demons,” the single below, comes off of their upcoming record Limbo, and it’s a blast and a half of a tune. The LA based group gives you 50’s style vocal harmonies with harken to the girl group aesthetic of that time, but then the guitars have a bit of snarl and psychedelic buzz to them. Take a listen and get ready for Limbo out October 2nd on Burger Records.
