Last Week’s Jams, Today (9.26 – 9.30)

Hitting our stride last week, or so it seemed. We wrapped up the week streaming tons of records we’d been jamming, plus new stuff out on Friday from Gold Star, Midwestern Medicine, Matching Outfits and more. Personally, I got stuck on that Melby tune, wondering what it would take to make them huge in the US. And, since we got to spin some records, we’ve also got some upbeat numbers sent our way by Fujiya & Miyagi, Certain Times and No Zu. There’s a little bit of everything for everyone, so like us, its all over the place. Happy Monday.

New Single & Video From Divorce

Nottingham based band Divorce is an up and coming group who will likely be a new name for both you and me. I’m sure you’ll agree with me that new songs like this one, “Checking Out”, will quickly make the band a household name amongst we music fans. What I love about the song is simply that it’s hard to pin down into any one genre or style. It has these hints of Americana like Dr. Dog or Wilco, but also crazy rocking energy and lovely harmonies throughout. Check it out for yourself below.

Divorce will release a debut EP entitled Get Mean on December 2nd.

Alex Cameron Shares New Video / Announces Album

Everyone’s favorite weirdo bad boy, Alex Cameron, has just dropped a new video and shared the news of his forthcoming LP. “Divorce” is a pop leaning tune from the crooner that’s, of course, not devoid of the strange and in depth lyricism that we’ve come to know from the gentleman. Sonically, you get a bouncy anthemic tune, with the ever-positive refrain of Cameron singing “All you gotta do is say it: divorce, divorce, divorce.” This borderline bitter sentiment is juxtaposed nicely in the brightness of the piano and pop structure of the song. But the sounds of it, it seems like we should all be in great anticipation for Cameron’s upcoming album, Miami Memory, which will be out on 9/13. Pre-order it here.

New Single (+ Album Stream) from The Daredevil Christopher Wright

I’m absolutely loving the new record from The Daredevil Christopher Wright, a Eau Claire three-piece who’ve created an eclectic sound akin to the likes of Here We Go Magic or Fleet Foxes.  Their album combines elements of folk, group harmonies, but there’s also a slightly experimental bent–though not as much because the group wanted to focus on the songwriting on the record for performance purposes (I commend that!). If you’re sitting at work, wondering what the next record you’re going to HAVE to buy is, then you need to take a listen to The Nature of Things, which hits stores next week. You can stream it in its entirety HERE.
