Cende Strikes Again

You don’t always need more than a few minutes to fall in love with a band, or a song for that matter. That’s all you get form the new Cende tune, and in fact, it’s not even two minutes. You won’t need it as its furious pop rock of the best sort, with the vocals and drums battling to see who can keep the pummeling pacing. Then there’s a nice little “oooooh” moment just before the minute mark and the cutting guitar solo for kicks. Their debut album, #1 Hit Single, will be out on Double Double Whammy on May 26th.

Rock Out With Great Grandpa

Seattle is often a place for guitar heavy rock music, and hometown band Great Grandpa really are no different. The band recently shared this new track “Teen Challenge” and it is a welcome bit of rock music in this sometimes diluted indie world. Guitars are heavy, drums are nice and loud, and I love the vocal delivery with the occasional Buddy Holly style hiccup. What’s not to like?

Great Grandpa will release their debut album Plastic Coughon July 7th via Double Double Whammy.

Really Enjoying This New Cende

Listening to this new Cende track, it occurred to me that the blogosphere (god I hate name) aren’t dead. A song this good pops up on NPR/Stereogum and people listen, which shows a few people still have some good taste. From the moment it kicked off, the driving rhythm of the track had me tapping my toes and bobbing my head; it’s an infectious bit of guitar pop that just swims in your head. It doesn’t hurt that Frankie Cosmos‘ Gretta Klein offers up her voice to make listeners swoon after a few minutes; her performance almost brings in an a Camera Obscura-esque vibe that’s unavoidable. Blogs be damned, this song’s just great. Look for their album #1 Hit Single on May 26th via Double Double Whammy.

This Eskimeaux Tune is a Grower

ddwThe first few times I ran through this Eskimeaux track, I struggled a bit.  The opening to the tune is soft, almost too casual in its delivery.  Then I jumped forward, getting right to the rocking part of the track.  Sure, it’s not the most legit way to go about it, but it put the whole song in perspective, which eventually won me over.  You’ll especially want to wait until just after the 3 minute mark, where there’s a brief, yet explosive burst of musical joy.  This is just another sign of things looking up for the band as they prep the release of OK via Double Double Whammy on May 12th.
