One of our now favorite Austin bands Calm Blue Sea are playing another show at Emo’s on Sunday night. If you have yet to catch this band live or haven’t heard their new record, make a point to do so before the nation picks up on them. Supporting bands for this one are Girls From Enola, Irepress, and Hotel Hotel. Doors are at 8 and show stars at 10pm.

Austin veterans Sunset are getting down at Emo’s on Tuesday and we think you should make it out to support your local music scene. Fellow local and solid bands The Sour Notes and Wild Moccasins will join the band on the stage for what should be a fun night of Austin music. Doors open up at 9pm and door charge is only $5.

The always steady and entertaining Ben Kweller is making another stop in Austin at Emo’s on Saturday night. Joining Mr. Kweller on the stage will be Jones Street Station and a special acoustic set by The Murdocks. Tickets are on sale now for $18 and music starts around 9pm. It’s rare that the ATH gives much mention to hip-hop, but when an artist like Talib Kweli comes to town, we’ve got to get the word out. Having seen the man in action before, I can tell you that a ticket will be well worth the cost of admission and not at all what you’d expect from the usual boring rap show. Several openers are involved including Strong Arm Steady, Zeale, Traygod, and local Bavu Blakes hosting the thing. Tickets are on sale now for $15 and music starts at 10pm.

Let’s not forget that some of us had to start our musical fandom somewhere, and for myself and many of my friends it was in the land of punk rock. This heralded land has been taken down by a lot of things lately, namely any genre wherein you add the word -core as a suffix. But, back for the attack are some of the forefathers, as Screeching Weasel comes to town this Friday at Emos. Not only that, but Ben will also be playing a Riverdales set Saturday night. The song below is one of my favorites that comes off Screeching Weasel’s Anthem for a New Tomorrow. Yay, punk rock didn’t completely die!
Phoenix rockers Dear and the Headlights are making another stop at Emo’s in Austin after a few months away from our little town. Opening acts are also pretty solid for this one with Quiet Company and The Bright Light Social Hour both joining in for support. Get your tickets ahead of time now for $10. Starting time for music is at 8pm so make sure you get there early.

White Rabbits, creators of one of our favorite songs of the year, just recorded a Woxy lounge session which is now posted over on the Futurist. The in-studio performance features 4 songs including a rousing rendition of that sweet jam “Percussion Gun”. Now is also a good time to mention that the band will be making a stop at Emo’s in Austin this Sunday night. Tickets for that show are on sale now for only $10.

Emo’s has a solid lineup of local acts ready and rarin’ to go for a night of rock on Friday. Acts include heavy rockers Lions, Ume and The Record Hop. No tickets will be sold online so bring $7 if you’re of age and $10 if you’re under. Here’s that Ume song everyone is talking about around town called “The Conductor”.

As an Austin Town Hall adventure, this was our first team outing to the new venue in town, The Independent. They’ve been working with C3, and fortunately for all of us, they’ve lined up some really great shows. We were stoked to see Little Joy, though a bit saddened that Fab would not be in attendance. Sex crazed pop musician Peaches is making a stop at Emo’s in Austin on Thursday night. Tour support Drums of Death should combine nicely with the headliners to make this a night of crazy drunken dancing and singing. Tickets are still available to purchase, but I wouldn’t plan on buying one at the door. Music starts at 10pm. Don’t miss this one!
