What a great way to start Monday, with a really soft ballad that warms the soul. This tune from Paul Bergmann is likely to get some love, since Emily from Warpaint is singing along with Mr. B, but I’m just falling for its understated qualities. Each chord and note is strummed so gently that it’s barely creating more than the central melody at play. Settle into your desk, settle into your day, and let this song carry your mind away. Look for Bergmann’s Romantic Thoughts EP on October 2nd via Fairfax Recordings.

Gem From Paul Bergmann

Man I have been enjoying this new Paul Bergmann tune most of the evening and wanted to send it your way on this fine hump day. The track, “Old Dream”, is a true songwriter’s gem in the vein of old Tallest Man or even up and comer Andrew St. James. It’s truly a special number.

Paul currently has a 7″ single with this track and one other out now on Fairax Recordings.

Hazy Psych From Talk In Tongues

Can you believe we made it through another week? I can’t, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to use this Friday as excuse to turn up the jams loud, and L.A.’s Talk In Tongues have the perfect blend of hazy psychedelic rock to ease us into the weekend. This song, from the forthcoming album Alone With a Friend (Fairfax Recordings, May 19th), really lays the distortion and reverb on thickly, bathing all the elements in a smoky cloud that’s just enough to still let you hear the squalling synths and ever-tangy guitars.

Talk in Tongues Ready 7″

I love the birth of new bands, like that of Talk in Tongues. I’m into it because I’m a fan of progression, seeing where an artist or group goes from one point to another. It’ll be really interesting to see where this act goes, as they’re just readying their first 7″ for Fairfax Recordings. For a first single, it’s pretty spot on, sonically. The drums sound great, and I love the warmth of the vocals. But, what I’m hearing from the guitars has me curious as to the group’s next steps, as they walk a line between dream pop and psychedelia. For now, just enjoy yourself this little number, and grab the 7″ on November 25th.
