Hear Another American Wrestlers Tune

awFeels like the new American Wrestlers album should be out already, right?  They had a bunch of great buzz built at the end of last year/beginning of 2015…then things went silent for a wee bit, until you hear this new single. It’s a tune build upon the backbone of a solid piano, holding space for the coated vocals to dance across the top whilst an electronic beat holds things in place.  There’s fine touches like a soloing guitar that add some differentiation in the middle of the tune, just so you don’t get weary and ensuring the track is a success. The band’s self-titled album will be out on April 7th via Fat Possum Records.

Los Angeles Police Department Return with Soft Pop

551494_904732099561401_6340773065914297492_nWe’re just about a week away from the February 24th release date of the new Los Angeles Police Department 7″, and so they’ve offered up another tune to get you in the mood for their dreamy pop tunes.  This tune has this great restraint, never pushing the envelope beyond the song’s capabilities, which in the end really allows for the group to hone in the track’s underlying melody.  Vocals are soft, and the drums never overwhelm, ending in this sprawling track of perfect pop blissfulness. Look for their release next week via Fat Possum Records.

This Is a Pretty Sweet American Wrestlers Tune

kellyIt took me a few days to really sink my teeth into this American Wrestlers single, but I’m really glad that I gave it the appropriate time…what a great song.  It’s got the little bits of pop that make me swoon, from the sound of the vocals to the track’s volume burst that kicks in just after the 1 minute mark.  It’s the brand of pop songwriting that has me tapping my toes and bobbing my head.  It’s another impressive dose of craftsmanship presented to us by the Scot (now Missourian) songwriter. Look for his self-titled debut album to come out via Fat Possum on April 7th.

Thrilled By Los Angeles Police Department

551494_904732099561401_6340773065914297492_nRyan Pollie has gotten a lot of love this week for his project, Los Angeles Police Department; I’m just going to have to jump on that train, as it fits in perfectly with my statement of singer-songwriters stretching the boundaries a bit.  For the most part, the structures are the same, but like my favorites (Jeremy Jay), there’s slight little elements being added to really propel the song in interesting directions. There’s the effect on the guitar and the vocals, which may not seem like too much, but it’s just a slight push that makes the work stand out beyond most of Ryan’s peers.  You’ll find this tune on a new 7″ coming out February 24th via Fat Possum.

Introducing American Wrestlers

amThe folks over at Fat Possum Records are notorious for putting out records from excellent artists, so it should come as no surprise that they’ve got yet another great band to introduce to us. American Wrestlers is the name behind a Glasglow born gentleman who finds himself transplanted to The Good Old US of A, and now making tunes. The debut 7″ from him is due out on January 27th and features the song below, “I Can Do No Wrong,” and its got the perfect balance of gritty garage production as well as sweet melodically jangly guitars. The vocals are light and breathy, floating above the groovy instrumentation. It’s a wonderful track that I can’t seem to get enough of, so have a listen and rejoice in finding a new band to jam to.

Great New Track From Frankie Rose

Frankie RoseFrankie Rose is one of those artists who has somehow released two great albums already, but still seems to fly just a little bit under the radar.  Who knows why I feel that way, but I’ve always been a big fan of the music she has created over the last few years.  This year brings more new music our way in the form of new album Herein Wild due out September 24th on Fat Possum Records.  Prior to that date, we’ve got a new song called “Street of Dreams” streaming below.  Me likey.

New Reverb Rock From Water Liars

I’m glad that the new year is finally upon us because it means that the quality new tracks start to roll in one after the other.  This new jam “Fake Heat” from Water Liars is one of the many new tunes we ATH kids are enjoying as of late.  It’s a reverb laden slow rock number that’s reminiscent of Band of Horses, Will Johnson, or even our very own locals Black Books.  Stick around till the end of the song when duo members Justin Kinkel-Schuster and Andrew Bryant team up for an incredible two part vocal harmony.

You can pick up a brand new album from the band entitled Wyoming on March 5th via Fat Possum Records.

New Tunes from Thomas Function

TFunction_1Back during SXSW, I anxiously awaited Camera Obscura to take to the stage, but while waiting, I was lucky enough to be blown away by Thomas Function.  These cats from Alabama have a new record coming out next week on Fat Possum Records titled In the Valley of Sickness.  Since I just got the album in the mail, I wanted to throw a track everyone’s way, so you can see what I’m so excited about.
