Great New Track From Jack Ladder

artworks-000104359373-5o2vaa-t500x500Jack Ladder is an artist that I was introduced to a few years ago and I have been following him and his band The Dreamlanders ever since.  Today I’m excited to hear that a new album is in the works and the first single called “To Keep and be Kept”is available for streaming.  I’m loving the haunting, deep vocal style that originally made me a fan.  The sweet and soothing vocal contribution from Sharon Van Etten here plays beautifully off the baritone of Jack to create an enchanting and memorable song.

Playmates is available on February 24th via Fat Possum.

Yak Give us Something Special

unnamedI know very little about London based rockers Yak, but this matters little when a band can pump out a debut single as memorable as this one.  Is it psych rock?  Is it punk rock?  I’ll let you call it whatever you like if you just hit play and enjoy.  I’m sure we will be hearing more from this trio as the buzz grows.

This track will appear on a new 7″ single coming out on February 24th via Fat Possum.

SXSW 2014 Interview: Solids

solidsIf you haven’t listened to the latest album by Montreal’s Solids, then you’re definitely missing out. Anyone looking for a little rock n’ roll in their life should spend a little time with Blame Confusion…it’s only been out for a few weeks.  We wanted to reach out to the band before they made their way into town for SXSW, and here’s what they had to say.

Noisy Number from Solids

solidsI pressed play on this tune, and immediately I was hooked.  If you love the sound of distorted guitars forcefully making their presence felt in your ears, then it’ll take you about ten seconds to fall in love with this tune from Solids. But, despite a fuzzy  bit of guitar noise, you’ll find a warmth hiding beneath the number, making it a stellar tune to kick off your week. The duo will be releasing their debut, Blame Confusion, on February 18th via Fat Possum, followed by a tour that includes some tour dates in our home for SXSW.  Trust me on this one; it’s a gem.

The Districts Get Remastered + Sign to Fat Possum

districtsIf you’ve had a chance to browse through the extensive list of incredible acts coming to Austin for SXSW, then perhaps you noticed, or even looked into, the Districts.  If not, that’s okay, but you’ll get a chance below to see if they even catch your eye.  The group has remastered a few old tracks, plus added a few new ones for their upcoming self-titled EP, which is going to be released on the band’s new label, Fat Possum.  It starts off as a bit of wandering Americana, but there’s a rough finish, which has me excited for both the EP, and their live show. You can grab the EP on January 28th, and catch the band touring with White Denim before they arrive at SXSW.

Temples Sign with Fat Possum

templesLooks like 2013 is pretty much behind us, musically speaking.  We’re all starting to look forward towards releases for 2014, and one of the hottest names on that list is Temples.  They’ve just released the single for their debut, Sun Structures, which will see a release on Fat Possum on the 11th of February.  There’s a propulsive element to the track, but the lyrics have this lofty quality that demonstrates the pop-centric approach of the band’s sound.  I love how they go from pushing forward, to breaking things down, momentarily going for a softer moment.  2013 was good, but looks like 2014 has plenty to offer as well.

Playful Number from Mean Lady

meanlady-600-1372450949I figure I always go on and on about rock n’ roll, so I figured I’d throw the world for a spin with a new single from Mean Lady.  It definitely takes a minute or so for the song to open up, with a light bit of tinkering to kick things off, but once it hits the groove, you’re going to get hooked on the infectious vocal performance from Katie Dill.  This track features some bouncing piano, soaring vocals and even some handclap loops, all making this the perfect summertime hit for your next party.  You can find this jam on the group’s Love Now LP, which is being put out by Fat Possum.  Enjoy the hooks.

Sunny Pop Music From Jackson Scott

1950As I scour the internet for some new tunes to share, this new song “Sandy” by young upstart Jackson Scott has perked up my ears.  You’ll immediately notice a very sunny, airy, and bright feel to the song that could land it on a future summer playlist by yours truly.  If nothing else, it should be able to turn that frown upside down for a couple minutes.

New album Melbourne is due out July 23rd on Fat Possum Records.

PYAITK: I Like The New Caveman Track

So, I figure we are going to miss things. It is inevitable. Therefore, when I find something to share, it will get the PYAITK tag. It stands for put your ass in the know and was originally coined by Billy “Wicked” Wilson from Voodoo Extreme many years ago, RIP. #tribute

Anyway this song from Caveman hit the intarwebs last week and it certainly rings of an ATH favorite Snowmine, though Caveman may have a bigger audience than the band we like better. Thought you all may like a listen because I think it is the best thing the band has put out yet.

They’ll be here for SxSW and again a couple weeks later for an April Fool’s Day show at the Parish. Self-titled LP is due on 4/2 via Fat Possum.

Much Hyped Rock from Milk Music

Those of you that follow the Internet have no doubt heard of Milk Music; they’re a Washington group known for their live energy and raw sound.  Listening to the newest single from their album, Cruise Your Illusion, which hits the streets on April 2nd via Fat Possum Records.  My first run through the tune revealed a lot more polish than some of the efforts that existed on their earlier EP.  But, the recording itself provides this certain level of grit, living somewhere between the boundaries of Cloud Nothings and Dinosaur Jr–not an entirely bad thing, eh?  I think there’s a lot of promise in this track, but I’m holding out my judgment on the hype until a later date.
