Citric Dummies Share Fresh Single, Announce New LP

What better way to announce a brand new album than to drop a blistering open track that rips right through your speakers? Citric Dummies have done just that, along with a nice little nod towards fellow Minnesotans Husker Du in both the album art and the title, Zen and the Arcade of Beating Your Ass. While it be easy to place the trio in some punk sub-genre, they seem more intent on breaking all the rules of punk expectations. Sure, when the chorus hits, there’s a howl that falls somewhere between Ozzy and Danzig, though I almost feel like that’s playing more to a traditional metal audience than a punk one. That said, there’s fiery guitar solos ripping here and there, like some melodic skate-punk anthem that got drenched at the Gwar show; think Queens of the Stone Age with high levels of fun and low levels of asshole-ness. They drop Zen and the Arcade of Beating Your Ass on November 3rd via Feel It Records.

Class Announce New LP, Share Behind the Ball

Pressing play on any record or track from Class is going to have you immediately digging through your closet for that OG leather jacket and a pair of black sunglasses; it’s an all encompassing cool that’s simply inescapable. Today, they add to their legend with the announcement of If You’ve Got Nothing, their latest ripper. The announce comes with a new jam that’s currently rattling the speakers here; it’s high-octane riffs run amok, with a rhythm section built in to tickle your ears. Still, like any Class record would have, there’s this anthemic quality that makes your listening experience such a joy; that owes to the handclaps and “ahhs,” all of which get executed with effortless cool. I know you’re digging it, so be sure to grab a copy of If You’ve Got Nothing before it drops on October 6th via Feel It Records.

Alicja-Pop Share I’m Here I’m There

If you’re looking for something to catch you off guard this morning, then might I suggest trying out this new track from Alijca-Pop, the recording project of Alijca Trout. Interestingly, I had this song completely pegged wrong; the angular guitar notes that began had me expecting a finite post-punk sound, but Trout has no intention of playing it safe here. Instead, Alicja cooly delivers verse vocals with a seeming hint of indifference, as if she was completely oblivious to the audience and their expectations. There’s a few moments where the track pulls on that come-hither vocal curl that Debbie Harry rocked so well, beckoning the listener to come closer. In the end, however, this song could survive on the chorus alone; the nonchalant vocal set-up is perfect, hitting you immediately with this brush of emphatic pop glory. If you’re into it, there’s a new 7″ from Feel It Records out on September 29th.

Leopardo Announces Solo Recordings 2019-2022

Every once in awhile, you sort of browse around the Internet, like looking through an estate sale trying to find that one rarity that makes the whole of the world make sense. Today, that feels like Leopardo; the working moniker of Romain Savary. We just got news that there will be a forthcoming collection titled Solo Recordings 2019-2022, out at the end of the month via Feel It Records. Savary’s lyrical content almost seems absurd to a degree, or perhaps its the perfect commentary, which in the present climate, does indeed make it absurd. His spoken delivery is put to a computerized plod, bouncing and bleeping, like an ancient video game behind the vocals. Plus, if that wasn’t pop enough for you, you can hear some great little vocal accompaniments in the chorus, adding some sugary textures to the performance. Solo Recordings 2019-2022 is out on September 22nd.

Single Bullet Theory to Release c. ’79 EP

There’s not much recorded material out there from Single Bullet Theory, aside from their eponymous LP…but that’s about to change, as the band are unearthing a collection of songs recored in the late 70s, titled c. ’79. In order to tease the forthcoming release, we’ve got a sneak peek at one of the outstanding tunes you’ll be able to get your hands upon. I love the perfect balance between the verses and the chorus, straddling the grit of early punk rock vibes and the anthemic pop rock that would dominate the 80s. Playful little guitar upticks give the song a bit of spirit, but you can hear the track still delving back into the band’s more raucous tendencies. This is one of those release that you’re going to just crank up, so send your thanks to Feel It Records who release the EP on September 22nd.

Corker Share Molotov Single

I have a feeling today’s going to be a nice little 13 hour day at work, so I’m going to use this new Corker track to give us all that extra boost of energy, drawing from the fiery nature of the song’s title. You could toss the track under post-punk pretty easily, if you’re just focusing on the vocal delivery at the start; it’s not a bad starting point, but the band take that and turn it into something a tad bit more industrial and dangerous in nature. There’s moments when the guitar seems completely out of sorts, like its a train broken loose from the tracks hurtling towards you; the bass build in another heavy layer, making it difficult to breath, only for the vocals and drums to stomp in and kick that energy through your speakers. The band release Falster Truths on September 1st via Feel It Records.

Optic Sink Drop Glass Blocks Single

For me, I love a track that forces me to indulge, to let myself go and just be present in the musical moment, such as this new hit from Optic Sink. When you open the door to this tune, you’re hit by these thumping industrial beats, though left with plenty of space to allow your mind (and the song) to drift. Natalie Hoffmann (of NOTS) calls out near the two-minute mark, offering up this distant post-punk delivery that feels as if its got icy cool running right through it. We get to journey through the song, letting the band build and fold textures into one another; there’s a weighted heaviness at times, and other times, they employ space to keep the playful side alive. They’ll be dropping Glass Blocks on September 8th via Feel It Records.

Playful Pop from the Cowboys

As of late there’s been a shitload of posturing about what’s cool and who’s cool in the scene or whatever you call it, but when you hear this track from the Cowboys you’re reminded that pop music supersedes all that bullshit; it’s about joy and frivolity, which is exactly what you get here. A stomping keyboard line sets up a ska nod (just me) that gives the track this insane bounce that will likely let you jump around the room joyously. Then you hit that chorus where the band turns the garage pop tendencies into a pure doo-wop swoon you’ll keep spinning on repeat. If you remember that rock n’ roll is fun and you can afford to take your life less seriously, then grab The Sultan of Squat, on August 25th via Feel It Records.

Check Out Another Advertisement Tune

My pals in Advertisement are really having a strong resurgence here in late summer as they are dropping serious heat with some new singles. Already having shared the straight rocker “Victory,” the band returns today with a song more on the downtrodden side with “Nobody’s Cop.” You’ll find a more mellow approach paired with some alt-country and sort of Southern rock inspiration from the Seattle based band. Seattle based outfit Advertisement blew up onto the scene back in 2020 with the release of their stellar debut LP American Advertisement. Since then, only a few singles have dropped while the band toured extensively and prepped for a follow up to the debut. Well now your wait is over as the group just announced their sophomore effort Escorts with the release of this new single “Victory.” You’ll find a pure form of rock n roll that seems somewhat lost in the current landscape but is certainly welcome and fresh for this listener.
