New Music from Abram Shook

As you know, we’re big Abram Shook fans; he even let us put out an LP by his Feverbones project, so when he’s crafting new tunes, our heads turn right away. I think those longtime fans will immediately notice that this record is a bit of a new twist for Abram; it sounds and looks like a pop record, albeit one spun through the lens of Shook. His soft vocal delivery seems to highlight the song’s natural rhythm, while synth stabs build in a toe-tapping groove beneath the whole mix; it’s all crafted under Abram’s typical attention to detail, with every note throughout being purposeful. The Neon Machine will be available on August 16th via Western Vinyl.

Show Pics: Feverbone Release Party @ Sidewinder (5/3)

ATH Records is really proud of this collections jams.

Feverbones just released their latest, DREAM TALK. If I were to classify this record, it would be indie pop for music nerds, but aren’t we all. There are minor chords and challenging progressions that can only really be afforded by really strong musicians. Add to that thoughtful lyrics and great harmonies, you have a recipe for one of your favorite records.

There were two lucky bands that joined on stage in Toma and Palm Daze. In the crowd, I saw members of several local bands. We had a close-knit group of local legends, venue heroes, overlapping voices and lovely friends.

Feverbones LP Release Show @ Sidewinder (Tomorrow)

A few weeks ago we were super fortunate to release Dream Talk, the debut long player from Austin’s Feverbones (members of Shearwater, Abram Shook, Adam Torres…and every other great Austin band you love). Now we get to celebrate proper style, with the band playing tomorrow night at the Sidewinder to celebrate the album’s release out into the world. If you’re not in the vicinity of Austin, that’s okay, you can grab the copy HERE. They’ll be joined on the night by friends TOMA and Palm Daze, exhilarating acts in their own rite. Doors are at 8 PM!

Happy Release Day Feverbones!!!

Yo. Sometimes here at ATH we release records and stuff, mostly from our favorite local friends (and sometimes beyond). Already this year we released the excellent Blushing EP, and we return today with Feverbones debut Dream Talk. It’s great, and you will love it, as I do. Band features members of Shearwater, Abram Shook, Adam Torres (live band) and more. You can pick up your copy HERE. And stream it below.

Check the New Feverbones Track

Yesterday, the esteemed Austin Chronicle dropped a brand new track from Feverbones, and you can read their thoughts HERE. But, since we’re responsible for putting Dream Talk out into the world, it’s our obligation (and pleasure) to share the latest single with you. “Sight Inside” is a crunchy number, drawing influences from mathy-prog to folkier elements; I particularly dig the backing vocals in the tune. The album will hit stores and the digital platforms on April 13th. You can grab the pre-order HERE. They’ll also be playing a fine set over at the ATH vs SOTO Party this Sunday!

Some Free Week Photos

Free Week is great. The concept of having people fill venues so bartenders and stage crews have a little cash in their pockets is totally a get-behind theme. Now, my epic level of cynicism that creeps in from time to time means that I will give the evil eye to anyone mad about one-in-one-out at a venue. These bands are playing all over town, all year long and sometimes opening for a touring band you would think is too expensive to go see. #value Let’s go, Austin, spend that twelve bucks.

My Free Week rant is over. Let’s get on to some notables and photos. A. Sinclair is a constant fave for rock and or roll. Abram Shook lends credibility to any music catalog. That performance had two-thirds of Feverbones; they are wicked excited for the new record, naturally so are we. Tres Oui‘s invisible bass player had a killer set (#sarcasm). Space-sparse of Soft Healer was a reset. I got to see The Infinites at Beerland as a full band. I do miss a little of the DIY nature of looping to fill sounds, but the layered gazy post punk sounded really rad with guitars filling the room. Fave thing of the time I spent Red Rivering.

Peep the gallery. I spent time taking photos of friends and the people that make Free Week go. I even used a flash. Crazy right?

I love y’all.

A Night Out With Feverbones, Pollen RX and White Denim

Hello.

Nathan has announced that Feverbones is back and that they will be releasing new material soon on ATH Records. We are all really excited by this, they are remarkably talented musicians and it shows through with every song. It also means that you will be able to see them about town, so a benefit show at Mohawk with White Denim headlining and our friends Pollen RX playing next door at Cheer Up seemed like a perfect excuse to get together and take in a Feverbones set and get a quick band portrait.

So, I have just a few thoughts after the break with plenty of pics…

ATH Records Welcomes Feverbones

Let’s just throw this out there…you have no idea how excited we are over at the ATH Records team to be working with Feverbones. Abram Shook and his old project the Great Nostalgic were one of our favorite acts when we first started this site 10 years ago. That alone makes it worth it, but you also get Chris Cox and Matthew Shepherd who’ve got an accomplished resume on their own (Adam Torres, Monk Parker, Dana Falconberry, Astrobleme, etc.). We’ll be releasing their new LP in early 2018…but why tell you now? Well, you can sample the band’s sound by listening to their 2014 EP below…plus, the trio hits the stage on Saturday night at the Mohawk, opening for White Denim. You can grab early tickets HERE.
