Another New Jam From Night Beats

Our old pal Danny Lee Blackwell is having a bit of a resurgence in his career as he’s moved out to LA and is churning out some real gems under his Night Beats moniker. His latest hit, “Thank You,” is another tune that sort of defies a genre label or direct classification (which we are always here for). Sure we have the overt psych influence throughout, but you can also pick up soft touches of neo-soul or even some Southern gospel. As you undertake repeat listens and groove along with the beat, your sure to find some new layers to peel back and enjoy.

Night Beats Share Hot Ghee

Danny Lee Blackwell is a name most of you should know as he has been involved in a slew of bands in and around both Texas and his relocation home of Seattle. If you do not know him by name, you surely know his musical work under the moniker Night Beats. Now based out of sunny LA, you can surely hear the blend of geographical influences in his latest track called “Hot Ghee.” It certainly has these very subtle and faint touches of Texas twang in the vocals and guitar which flow beautifully within the overall California psych bop style. It’s a straight up jam.

Night Beats will release this track as part of a new album entitle Rajan which is due out on July 14th via Suicide Squeeze and Fuzz Club. Pre-orders should be live now.

Tess Parks Announces And Those Who Were Seen Dancing

Tess Parks has long been a performer, as we can see from the childhood video footage used to announce her new record, And Those Who Were Seen Dancing. Opening up with a heavy bit of keys and Parks’ voice, you get this smoky troubadour feel; the power of the voice alone is intoxicating, drawing you into Tess’ world. Just as you pull your ear towards the speakers, the 1:30 mark hits, dropping in a really soft beat that adds a textural layer to the tune; it provides the song with a slight bit of energy, but not enough to detract from the song’s core, which clearly has Tess as the gravitational center. This is what your kids will listen to in space, so be sure to grab the new LP when it hits on May 20th via Fuzz Club/Hand Drawn Records.

Driving New Tune From Sei Still

Berlin by way of Mexico based upstarts Sei Still released a stunning debut LP last year but have no plans to slow down in 2021 with more new music on the way. The first taste of new music from the group comes in the form of this driving new single “Exilio” which is the crazy melding of German style electronic music with a new wave meets gothic influence. Sort of like Cold Cave if they leaned a bit heavier into a Joy Division vibe. I do hope you dig it.

This track will appear on new album El Refugio due out on November 26th via Fuzz Club Records.

Elephant Stone Share We Cry for Harmonia

Over the last year or so, Elephant Stone has slowly been offering up singles from their new record, Hollow. For me, I think my favorite thing still rings true with their latest work; they seem to nod towards psychedelia (especially considering the sitar gifts of founder Rishi Dhir), but they’ve always had a strong sense of melody. There are light twist and turns in the guitar work here, looking into the current psyche genre, but overall, you get the sense that these songs are crafted with the intention of seducing the listener. They do offer a nice burning jam in the song’s latter half, again paying homage to their pigeonholing. Listening through, you get transported to a new space, which definitely ties into the concept of the album, said to be about humans finding a New Earth after we’ve finished destroying our current home. Hollow is out on February 14th via Fuzz Club.

Get To Rockin’ With Crimen

Nathan and I are ready to kick off our summer time fun in the next day or so and we need some solid rock jams to power us through the season. Thankfully I’ve just been sent this solid new rocker called “Six Weeks” from Rome based band Crimen. It certainly has a psych rock vibe to it with powerful drums, fuzzy as hell guitars, and a superbly distorted bass riff. Give me more of this please.

Crimen will release Silent Animals on June 29th via Fuzz Club.

Some Psych Rock From Pretty Lightning

As some of us continue to say that guitar driven rock is a dying thing, I dare you to check out this new one called “Willow Valley Blues” from German based duo Pretty Lightning. With a psych rock theme, one will immediately notice the heavy guitars, wailing organ, tight drums, and majorly distorted vocals. Guitars are alive and well my friends!

Pretty Lightning will release The Rhythms of Ooze on November 10th via Fuzz Club.
