Maria Chiara Argiro Shares Light Video

I’ve really been enjoying this brand new track from Maria Chiara Argiro; it’s a beat heavy pop track, but there’s some experimental work in the empty space of the tune, illustrating the broad range of Maria’s approach to the craft. Listening through, the song works in movements, at times clean and open, at other moments, layer upon layer get draped atop one another to really push the sound to the next level. You can easily label it as dance music, but then you can hear where Argiro is pushing things to the next level. Closer is out April 26th via Innovative Leisure.

Gorgeous Post Rocker From Heron

It was supremely rainy yesterday here in Austin, but the storms cleared right before the sun went down, and we were treated to a bath of warm sunshine in the cool spring air post torrential downpour. That phenomenon–tumultuous storms followed by the climax of light is mirrored exactly in this instrumental post-rock track from Warren, Pennsylvania’s Heron. It’s a slow building track that will surely call to mind the genius of Explosions in the Sky, but what I like most about this track is that you don’t have to wait too long before it really soars. At four minutes, you feel as though you’ve taken an epic trek with a sweet reward. Take a listen below and get ready for the release of Sun Release, the band’s sophomore LP, which will be out on July 19.

Juliana Daugherty Releases New Single

Juliana Daugherty has already popped up on our radar with her first single from her forthcoming LP, and the latest single only cements our earlier praise. Musically, it’s pretty minimal, with the song predominantly working around a quieted guitar strum; you’ll get extra little electronic samples bubbling up carefully so as not to overstate their presence. Throughout the track, her voice mesmerizes, rising and falling with purpose as each lyric is delivered; there’s almost a hint of a quiver that creates an added aura of intimacy between performer and listener. Her new LP, Light, will be delivered on Jun 1st via Western Vinyl.

New Music from Juliana Daugherty

This debut album from Juliana Daughtery is shaping up to be some kind of wonderful. Today she shares the title track from her Light record, illustrating the captivating magic of her voice. She opens the song primarily on her own, matching notes with piano chords; it’s here you can first hear that angelic quiver in the voice that draws listeners into her work. Musically, the song’s pretty bare, but that only adds to the emotional tug of Daughtery’s voice; she manages rising and falling notes, wrapping them around a sampled loop that runs through the song’s latter half. You can get your hands on this LP on June 1st via Western Vinyl.

Another Reason to Enjoy Turn to Crime

ttcTurn to Crime are preparing for the release of their new album, Actions, by releasing a bunch of really varying singles.  Their first track had more of an upbeat vibe hiding behind the distorted sound.  On their new song, or new to us, they’ve got more of a playful stutter-step going on; the song pulses and vibes with just a hint of guitar lurking right beneath the front of the mix.  I dig the fact that I’m completely unable to pigeon-hole the band…that’s usually a good sign of things to come.  Look for their record on April 28th via Mugg and Bopp.
