I’m a big fan of indiepop outfitPale Lights, and I reach out to the band from time to time, like I did this year when I was compiling my Year End List collection from people I admire. The band got back to me with their collective list, including some reissues, which you can find down after the jump. I don’t mind one bit seeing Robert Forster on a list!
Today’s the day! It’s officially day one of Weekend Two of Austin City Limits 2019! Last weekend, we endured a ridiculous amount of heat and humidity to see some great bands deliver wonderful performances. Lucky for you, Weekend Two goer, you have the chance to see essentially the same lineup (with a few wonderful additions) with far superior weather. Yes, it may look like rain is in the forecast this morning and it’s likely Zilker will turn into a bit of a mud pit (rain boots may be your friends), but the great news is you will not sweat merely by existing. You can view the full schedule here, and if you’re a fan of the hard paper copy, I would suggest printing one out at home, as there is no fold out maps / schedules this year. Read more for my thoughts from Weekend 1 and suggestions for Weekend 2. Read more
Happy ACL day to all! Many of you are probably heading out the door soon for the first day of weekend one, but before you do, I’ve got another Gimme 5 playlist to jump start your morning. I’m very excited about this one because it comes from a personal favorite of mine, punk rockers FIDLAR. And hey, they play today! So hit the jump for some tunes hand picked by the band.
If you can believe it, (I can’t) we’re less than a month away from two weekends of crazy fun at Zilker Park once again. Whether you’re a veteran fester or new to Austin City Limits Music Festival, we’re here to try and help you navigate a few days in the still-too-hot-for-October-Texas Sun with a few hundred thousand of your closest friends. Click past the jump to check out five of my must see bands, both obvious choices and more under the radar acts. You can buy your tickets / passes here.
Austin City Limits Music Festival 2019 will be going down on October 4-6 and 11-13, and though we got the initial lineup announcement, those of you looking to catch just a few acts can rejoice, as they’ve dropped the Day-By-Day Lineup and single day tickets are on sale now. By the looks of it, it may be a pretty split for those looking to catch similar acts. Friday of both weekends seems to be for the bros of rock and roll with Guns N’ Roses, The Raconteurs and Tame Impala. Saturday is for the feels with Childish Gambino, The Cure and Billie Eilish. Sunday looks to round it out with some dancing/general baddassery from Cardi B (Weekend 1), Robyn (Weekend 2) and Lizzo (Weekend 2). Are you going a full weekend or just picking a day? Whichever you pick, choose quickly and scoop those tickets before they sell out!
How is it possible we’re already through SXSW hangover week? It seems like only yesterday the ATH crew was hanging at Hotel Vegas, with Lone Star in hand, kicking off the week a couple of Sundays ago with the awesome lineup put together by Nathan and our boy Mr. Laird. As always, we move on, reflect on the fun behind us, and plan for the next great lineup or festival. Such is the beauty of living in the live music capital of the world. To look back on the festival, Nathan, Brian, and myself came up with an arbitrary list of awards with each of us picking our choice for the category.
Hit the jump for our awards, final thoughts and a few related pics from a fun, exciting, and draining week.
