More Tunes from School of Language

davidIt’s interesting to hear the musical progression of School of Language since David Brewis first stepped out from behind Field Music so many years ago.  What seemed like a B-Side Project has evolved into something that has a soul all its own, while still harnessing the sound Brewis has come to embody.  There’s still elements of that jagged guitar playing, yet you’ll likely find a lighter feel to it all, providing an almost rhythmic dance propulsion.  His new album, Old Fears, will be out on April 8th via Memphis Industries.

More New Music From Colourmusic

Upload_Colour_2011_09_29-23_21_18Our friends Colourmusic have a new album dropping soon that we know you’re going to love, and the singles previewing the LP should confirm our anticipation.  You’ve already heard new track “Horse Race” a couple of weeks ago and now we have this driving tune “Dreamgirl 82” for your awaiting ears.  I’ve personally had my hands on this one for awhile and it’s already up to something like 50+ plays in my iTunes.  I suggest you give the song a listen, making sure you hang out for one of the most epic beat drops in the history of music around the 2:18 mark.  Don’t skip ahead to it you assholes!  Listen to this one from start to finish and revel in all it’s psyched out, dark pop glory.

New album, May You Merry Rich, comes your way April 8th on Memphis Industries.

New Tunes From Elephant

Elephant-006UK based Elephant is a band that we posted about in the past and we’ve been anxiously awaiting to hear more from them.  Today I’ve found another track from the band called “Elusive Youth” that is yet another atmospheric pop gem from the band.  I love the playful nature of the track as we dance through the tune mesmerized by the enchanting vocals of leading lady Amelia Rivas.  Enjoy it with me.

New album, Sky Swimming, is coming out on April 28th via Memphis Industries.

New Jams from Colourmusic

colourmusicWe’ve been sitting quietly on the excellent new Colourmusic album, waiting for the group to unleash one of their singles on the masses.  Finally that day has come, and I think you’ll be pleased with the bands maturity over the years.  Over time the band have moved from an oddball folk outfit to a noise barrage to, well, this; it’s the best of both worlds. There’s an underlying darkness, but the vocals of singer Hendrix still have a smooth delivery that allows for the band’s penchant for melody to shine through.  It’s an intoxicating mix of noise and beauty, all of which will be found on the group’s new album, May You Marry Rich, due in April via Memphis Industries.

New Track from David Brewis as School Language

schoollanguageAs a long time fan of the work of Field Music, I’ve always enjoyed the various projects the group’s members have participated in throughout their breaks; it doesn’t hurt that they’re usually good too!  This number from David Brewis under his School Language moniker has this stuttering feeling, which steps in line with his main band’s approach to layering guitar parts atop one another in a similar fashion.  But, it also reminds of an odd blend between art rock and dance pop, so that should provide interest levels for some folks.  The new record, Old Fears, will be released on April 8th via Memphis Industries.

Smooth Pop from Elephant

elephantThere was a time in my life when ethereal pop was my forte, and occasionally I’ll go back and dabble in it from time to time.  Listening to this new single from Elephant provides me with that perfect opportunity, using this floating bit of song construction to back the powerful vocals of Amelia Rivas.  Given that we’re all coming back to our appreciation of R&B influenced vocals, this UK group fits right into our cyclical musical world.  The single below is from their forthcoming debut, which will see a release in the near future by Memphis Industries.  We’ll keep you posted, but for now you can sit back and absorb this special number.

Smooth Dance with Barbarossa

barbarosaI’d be remiss if I didn’t post this track, as I’m really warming to the sound of Barbarossa.  On this song, the bass line works just beneath the vocals, providing a groove that gets your feet moving.  However, the track also has this bright pop explosion that bursts forth during the chorus that makes the song more than just a minimal electronic dance number.  You should all be on the lookout for the new record from the London producer on August 6th when Memphis Industries releases Bloodlines.

Pulsating Tune from Barbarossa

barbarossaThe last few years has seen some incredible voices come into the foray, such as Justin Vernon.  I don’t know why, but when I think of Barbarossa singer James Mathe, I get the same sensation from him.  While he started out as more of an acoustic troubadour, you won’t see that in the rhythmic pulse of his latest single, “Turbine.” You’ll find the song on his latest effort, Bloodlines, which is being released by Memphis Industries on August 8th.  By all accounts, this won’t be a stripped down affair, as Mathe aims to broaden his sound.  But for me, it’s all about the voice–just take a listen.

Lovely New Pop from the Phoenix Foundation

1745Man, as the sun warms us up, pop songs are where it’s at! This new track from New Zealand outfit, The Phoenix Foundation, is just such a hit.  It’s got this blissed out synth beat bursting throughout, with Lukas Buda voice dancing atop it.  I love the change to high notes around the 2.5 minute mark, adding some loftier moments to an already stellar track.  If you like what you’re hearing, then you should check out their new album Fandango when it hits stores on May 14th courtesty of Memphis Industries.

Electro Goodness from Barbarossa

1775When I first heard this new single from Barbarossa, Hot Chip sprang to mind.  The groove and the vocals do bear some resemblance, but the song unfolds in a different manner.  As opposed to an over-sexualized nerdiness, this track unfolds in a gentle manner, showing more restraint.  It’s not a club banger, but there’s a soothing mood created.  James Mathe is the man behind the music, and he’s just signed with the heralded Memphis Industries to release his first single, which we’re featuring below.  You need a mellow electro jam? Look no more.
