The Finks Announce Rolly Nice

My undying infatuation with the sounds of Australia led me to the Finks back in 2016 with the Middling LP, so I’ve been biding my time waiting for the group to return with something new. Today’s that day, and what a cracker of a track they’ve got to offer up to us all. Primarily the project of Oliver Mestitz, it makes sense that his voice is the shining beacon in this new single; I really love the way he turns some of the syllables with his delivery…always charming. Beneath the mix is a layer of electronic atmosphere and a low guitar casually jangling, all resting atop of percussive elements that help keep the pace. Milk Records will drop Rolly Nice on May 25th.

Here’s That New Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett has been teasing us all week long with a new album, and today you finally get a chance to enjoy a complete new single. I love how the track opens with her casual guitar work before she blasts into a heavier portion of the tune with her foot stomped down on that distortion pedal. Pretty sure tons of folks will be relishing this song, not to mention the deserved fawning and anticipation that comes with a Barnett album cycle. Tell Me How You Really Feel will be out on May 18th via Mom + Pop/Milk Records.

New Music from Blank Realm

Blank Realm haven’t released anything new since they dropped Illegals in Heaven in 2015, but perhaps something is on the horizon. Our first hint is the new single they’ve tossed into the Split Singles Club courtesy of Milk! Records and Bedroom Suck Records. This has an old-school vibe to it, almost as if one of the Britpop forefathers opted to come out of retirement to bring us this skittering little club burner. You can subscribe to get more of the singles in a limited 7″ series HERE, or just enjoy a glimpse at the great music going on at the moment overseas…we’ll do our best to keep pointing you in the right direction.

New Music from Jade Imagine

jadeDon’t you guys worry, there’s still a few great songs left to come out in 2016, like this Jade Imagine number. She’s working with Courtney Barnett’s Milk Records to release her What the Fuck Was I Thinking EP, and you can hear a few similarities in the songwriting, though I also hear a bit of a nod to Juliana Hatfield. The balance between voice and instrumentation is perfect here, giving each ample space to hold the listener’s attention. It’s a steady pop hit, and one that I think will gladly help ease you into the weekend’s slumber.

Everyone Loves Courtney Barnett

Courtney BarnettAnd we’re no exception to that statement, so it is only rightthat we share the latest fromCourtney Barnett. She’s released a new song called, “Three Packs a Day,” which features the effortlessly complex lyrics we’ve come to know, strung along with a bit more delicate acoustic guitar sound for the beginning part of the song. Then, we get that same grittier guitar and prominent bass line that were featured on the stunningSometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.Plus, there’s the harmonica solo from Fraser A. Gorman, which is a bonus you didn’t think you’d need, but sounds great in addition to the band’s instrumentation. This track is coming out February 14th as a part of a Milk Records compilation album called Good For You,which you can preorder here.

East Brunswick All Girls Choir Have a New Album

1891519_10152049806902986_814796828_oThese days it seems like every time I find a new track or band that they end up being from Australia. East Brunswick All Girls Choir are from Melbourne, and they’ve got a new album out called Seven Drummers, which you can purchase over on their Bandcamp Page on rad ‘beer colored vinyl.’ The track below, oddly enough titled “West Brunswick” is a song packed with emotion, which you can hear especially in the vocals. These vocals are accompanied by a bluesy kind of grunge sound in the instruments that I haven’t really heard elsewhere, but I think it’s nicely summed up in the band’s self-proclaimed “glum rock” genre distinction. Enjoy.
