Last Week’s Jams (6.10 – 6.14)

Consider yourselves lucky! Three of the song’s I wrote about didn’t make DSPs yet, otherwise, you’d have a two hour playlist of joy to listen through today. Luckily, Australia was keeping it real, with new stuff from The Male Gays, Pop Filter, Kosmetika and Alluvial Nuggets all gracing the site. There was some Austin show coverage too, namely Mikky & the Doom and Adrianne Lenker, so jams from those acts get included. On the personal tip, I was really pulling for the Manners Manners and Nightshift to be big hits out there in the scene, with this new Parallel tune right behind it! There’s also some expansive jams too from the likes of Immersion and Nap Eyes, if you need a tune over 5 minutes for your life. Enjoy.

One More Milly Jam

You’ve probably read my praise for Los Angeles based Milly and the new music they’ve been pushing out this year. It should come as no surprise then that when they dropped this brand new track “Bittersweet Mary,” I had to share it with all my reader friends. While I still pick up on the post-emo vibe, I’m also getting these hints of like mid to late 90s alt-rock akin to maybe Silverchair or similar bands. Who knows, maybe I am way off base. Either way, you should check it out below and enjoy.

You should of course pre-order the new Milly album Your Own Beginning from Dangerbird Records. It drops on July 28th.

Last Week’s Jams (5.13. – 5.17)

After what felt like a down week, things really took off over here, with another collection of great singles and albums we were stoked to hype up on our end of things. The Austin contingent came strong, with new tunes from Genuine Leather, The Sour Notes, Holiday Music, Letting Up Despite Great Faults and Gus Baldwin/the Sketch. Some long time favorites like Club 8, Nada Surf, and Icarus Phoenix made the cut too! Our pal Michael Maly added some words and photos on Slowdive, so of course we included their classic hit. A lot of great pop stuff too from Sad Eyed Beatniks, Laughing and This Is Lorelei, thus you’ll need to keep your focus when you spend some time below!

Milly At it Again

If you were paying attention to our website back in 2022, you may have noticed a multitude of posts about the Los Angeles based band Milly. Likely due to our newfound love and resurgence for the post-emo days, the band has straight hit a chord with me personally and turned me into a forever fan. This year the group has another sure to be stellar album planned for summer which will feature this new single “Spilling Ink.” You can give me a million more songs just like this one and it’d be a solid day for me.

The new album from Milly entitled Your Own Becoming will be out on June 28th via Dangerbird Records. Pre-orders are live now!

Last Week’s Jams Today (8.29 – 9.2)

Strangely, I felt like we didn’t cover a ton of territory last week, but then I noticed we have quite a playlist, and that’s even with a few jams not quite making the streaming services of choice. I opened the playlist with “It Keeps Happening” from Germany’s Matching Outfits; I couldn’t stop playing the tune all week, so I figured it was best up front. We also got new stuff from forever-faves like Peel Dream Magazine and the Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness. Stoked on both the new Eerie Wanda and Submotile tunes, and RayRay loved that latest Disq tune. Settle in for the day and turn it up nice and loud.

Yet Another Jam From Milly

As evidenced by my posts about Los Angeles based MILLY over the last couple of months, I am clearly digging everything the band has been releasing. As if I needed more reason to promote this band, they go and drop a song like “Marcy”, and I’m once again all aboard the hype train. This one is a little slower and more downtrodden when compared to previous singles, but I can see how this would fit in perfectly amongst an album of hits. This record is clearly going to be taking up spots in all our year end lists.

MILLY’s new album entitled Eternal Ring comes out on September 30th via Dangerbird Records.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (7.25 – 7.29)

I don’t know if you guys noticed, but RayRay got a new gig, so he’s had tons more time to get some sweet jams up! It’s great, as we definitely have some crossover, but also our own styles, so our playlists are probably much more diverse! I mean, just last week he premiered new Mother Sun and Peter Matthew Bauer, while I was rocking the heck out of Almond Joy and The Smashing Times. I mean, there’s no winner, but you! We also were able to get some old friends on the pages with Why Bonnie and Cam Bina! So, happy Monday to us all!

Another New Jam From Milly

Los Angeles based outfit Milly is quickly becoming one of my favorite new artists to emerge this year. The duos upcoming album, Eternal Ring, has been hitting me with all the feels for early aughts and late 90s style post-emo music with hints of slackerdom and guitar rock. If any of those sounds and styles sound intriguing to you, might I suggest you check out the bands latest single “Ring True”. I love the way this band can pull off these sort of subtle, mellow moments and then kick it up a notch with some loud guitar.

Eternal Ring is out on September 30th via Dangerbird Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (6.20 – 6.24)

I don’t even want to look back at last week. But, we had songs, there were some really good songs coming out of a really awful week. Our friend Ram Vela and his band had a new single, plus it never hurts to get a Voxtrot tune in your inbox. Think I kept coming back to these Bastien Keb, Flowertown and Tan Cologne tunes the most, well, and that Tony Molina track. There’s about 20 jams to sort through, so find a favorite. Or don’t.

Milly Release Nullify Single

MILLY is a Los Angeles based group who make their very own brand of slacker style, post-emo themed rock music. A lovely example of their style can be found with this brand new single called “Nullify”. It features a sort of early Smashing Pumpkins guitar sound mixed with bits of slower, emo driven bands like say American Football. However you want to label them or brand them, it’s a rocking track for your Thursday morning.

This new tune will appear MILLY’s new album entitled Eternal Ring due out September 30th on Dangerbird Records. Pre-orders are live now.
