Excellent Reissue from Sister Flo

floridaI was out searching for something supremely beautiful, and luckily our friends at Soliti Music had just the trick up their sleeve, sending me a copy of the latest reissue from Sister Flo.  The band is legendary in their homeland of Finland, with their album Tragicians Hat being spoken of much like the early B&S records…whispered in tiny circles of those in the know.  Sadly, the band are no longer together, but I think you can hear how great the music they crafted truly was, which is why it’s getting the re-issue treatment.  If anything, at least your day will get better with this tune.

New Jam from WULFS

wolvesYou know that I like to check in with Art is Hard Records every few weeks, as their Pizza Club Singles always offer up something that not everyone’s hip to, so I know I won’t be being a dead horse when I post their tunes. This week’s jam comes courtesy of WULFS, who appear to be a younger act working with the label, but I’m stuck on this tune.  The guitars are dreamy and light, at least when they first enter.  They move forward, then the distortion kicks in; I think I even hear a bit of horn as they rock out during the chorus.  I bet you’ll have fun listening to this tune…you know, if you’re into good tunes.

Fresh Discovery: Scooterbabe

scooterI was doing a little research on this great little festival called Athens Intensified.  While looking it over, I came across this band, Scooterbabe on the festival’s line-up. They haven’t done anything new in awhile, but I’ve been stuck on their self-titled EP.  Part of it is this jangling bit of indiepop, which always has a spot in my heart.  But, I also hear a bit of the Promise Ring in the vocals, so of course my nostalgia flares up and gets me going all over again. They look like they’ve got tons of recent activity, so perhaps we’ll get to hear something brand new from the group soon. For now, I’m content with EP; you can pick it up for the NYOP now.

Download Latest Single from S

jenngYou know what I respect about Hardly Art? They’re still down to give out a free download now and then.  They trust in their product; they know you’ll love what you hear, so you’ll pick it up from them.  So, with that in mind, they tossed up the newest tune from S, the project of Jenn Ghetto.  It’s much like her earlier singles, showing sonic similarities towards Tegan and Sara; no one is too cool to enjoy a great pop song…well, some of you are, but you’re probably not reading this. She’ll be releasing her album, Cool Choices, on September 23rd through the label; don’t be afraid to enjoy your day listening to this tune.

Chilled Vibes from The Good Sports

goodieI just can’t get enough of sun-drenched guitar pop, and today, there’s nothing better than this EP from Brisbane’s The Good Sports.  I’ve spent the last few hours listening to their new Mandarin Time EP, and it sort of reminds me of the music being crafted by The Growlers.  There’s slight traces of garage rock, but they spin it in such a soft manner that you can’t help but to just sink into the vibe of the tune.  Their EP gets a little bit groovier in the long run, but this tune was the one that grabbed me immediately.  You’re going to have a hard time getting this jam out of your head today.

Jeremy Jay Pumps Out Another Hit

JeremyJayLondonTreesJeremy Jay is an artist who has likely been featured on our site more than any other over the years.  It’s of course warranted by the many great pop songs he’s put out during the course of his career.  Today Jeremy has sent us another incredible pop number called “Hallways and Splattered Paintings”.  I’m finding the plucked guitar and hushed vocals throughout the sound make this just another jam to add to an already impressive repertoire from Jeremy Jay.

Purchase this tune and another new single on iTunes.

Summer Tune from Pool Holograph

PHpromo1Summer time is about letting loose and having fun.  Whether that’s hanging at the pool with your friends or sitting beach-side with your family, you’re supposed to relax and let everything go.  This tune from Pool Holograph is perfect for that sentiment; it’s filled with an exuberance that’s playful in every way, especially the way the cymbals are ridden throughout the track.  The vocals add a nice touch, bursting forth during the chorus into a delightful croon.  This is the first single off the group’s forthcoming album, Mortals, which should hit this Fall.

Show Preview: Miniature Tigers @ Stubbs Jr (8.6)

miniature-tigers_320

Date Wednesday, August 6th
Location Stubbs Jr
Doors 8:00 PM
Tickets $12 from Stubbs

After a really busy few weeks, the going of shows slows down a bit, but there’s a great pop rock show that should be on your radar…you know, if that’s your thing.  Miniature Tigers blow into town, filled with catchy tunes from their most recent release, Cruel Runnings.  Their tracks are all fun, all the time. But, be sure to pay special attention to openers, the Griswolds.  The Australian band is set to release their album, Be Impressive, and the title does great to serve notice to new fans.  Plus…it’s not every day bands from Australia get to make it over here…traveling gets expensive ya’ll. Another opener, Finish Ticket opens things up; I don’t know much about them other than they’re influenced by The Strokes and the Killers…so there’s that.

Bouncy Indiepop from Parcel Post

parcelCloudberry Records has been fairly quiet as of late, which is understandable considering the difficult climate of running a boutique label.  But, as I was growing the site for an update, I ran across this gem of a tune from Parcel Post.  I wasn’t able to find too much information on the group themselves, but this tune’s pretty remarkable (I do know there’s some relation to Summer Cats and Fireflies).  It’s got the traditional indiepop jangle, but it also has some playful touches like the bells being hit in unison with the melody.  This is a single that’s coming via the label in conjunction with Kingfisher Bluez as part of a single series.  Sit back and feel good about yourself.

Another Tune from Sw/mm/ng

swWe’ve been enjoying our listen to the latest single from Sw/mm/ng, just to get ready for the release of their debut LP.  There’s really two elements going on in this track: the main course goes straight for the indie rock hooks, but the guitars wonder through the background, cascading in various directions.  One of the things I love about Feel Not Bad, the title for the album, is that the entirety of the record features 4 to 5 minute songs, yet they don’t seem to weigh you down, as one might expect. Look for the record on August 26th via Old Flame Records.
