Rambling Rocker with Jesus Sons

jesusYou need a little classic rock n’ roll to get through your day, then you can stop right here and bounce around with this new hit from Jesus Sons.  The LA group takes classic rock sounds (or roots rock if you’re into genres) to meander their way through a swinging tune; I think my favorite is the harmonica touch hanging about in the background. The group are releasing their eponymous debut on January 28th via Mock Records, and it’s got the swagger and cool that all the kids are talking about. Take a trip.

Brand New Warm Soda Track

warmsodaI hope Mathew Melton never quits writing songs.  There’s nothing he’s done under Warm Soda that hasn’t simply won me over, as evidenced by last year’s spot in our Top Albums List.  I’m actually surprised he’s come back so quickly with more jams that sound just as good, if not better.  These track actually seems more casual, but in the perfect power-pop sort of way; it’s steady and not overly energetic.  His new record, Young Reckless Hearts, cannot get here soon enough! It’s out on Castle Face Records on March 11th.

Sweet Indiepop from Model Village

modelvillageFeel like it’s been a short while since I’ve offered up some truly joyous indiepop tunes, so I figured it best to get back on that boat, albeit for just a post.  Model Village is another UK act with the bouncing rhythm section coated with angelic vocals.  The group just released their newest LP, You Chose These Woes, and it’s been a pleasure absorbing these melodies while staring out my work window into the sun.  If you’re afraid of the female vocal, don’t fret, as they have quite a bit of male participation throughout the record.  Give it a spin.

New Music from Jack Name

jacknameWe feel like kicking things off on Monday should start with a little bit of introspection, but a whole lot of grit, providing you with some energy to jump into the week with just the right amount of spirit; I think this jam from Jack Name will do just the trick.  It’s a lo-fi sort of affair, with sharp distorted guitars cutting in and out of the track.  You’ll find low-end vocals beneath the front of the mix, possibly hearing a bit of Frank Black affectation.  The project will be releasing Light Show on January 28th via God? Records, followed by a show that lands the band in Austin on February 8th.

Rocking Out with Protomartyr

protomartyrWe don’t want our good friends at Hardly Art thinking we forgot about them, but they make things easy by putting out such solid jams as this one by Protomartyr. Their latest signing, Protomartyr, have this great darkness in their approach, which owes a great deal to how the vocals were recorded.  Me? I love the angular approach to the guitar playing, pushed right up against this bouncing rhythm section.  You’ll find the tune only gets better as the band jumps off energetically from time to time throughout the track.  The excellent label will release Under Color of Official Right on April 8th.

Web of Sunsets Release New Single

webofsunsetsAs the majority of the country currently battles to stave off the cold, this track from Web of Sunsets seems to come at the perfect time. Drifting along, the song encompasses the warmth that we all seek out, while there’s still a bit of sparseness allowing for the wondering of one’s mind.  On February 14th, the rest of the country will also get to listen to the Minneapolis band’s full-length, Room of Monsters, which will be released on End of Time.  It should further the apparent mastery and craftsmanship in the group’s Americana-influenced sound.

New Music from Stone Jack Jones

artworks-000065604035-0u4pf0-t500x500As the temperature drops across the Northern Hemisphere, we’re all seeking out some form of solace.  For some it’s a fire, but for me, it’s sad bastard/slow folk tunes. Luckily, this new tune from Nashville’s Stone Jack Jones came our way today, so we had to share the number.  It’s got a real slow pace, with the vocals carefully floating atop the guitar, and backing vocals added by Patty Griffin.  If you ask me, tunes like this are much better than a fireplace, but that’s just me.  His new album, Ancestor, drops on March 4th via Western Vinyl (those guys are going to have a rad 2014).

American Rock from Desert Noises

desrtGood jams are good jams, and sometimes they come our way with no guise our pretension.  That’s the feeling that I got when I listened to the newest single from Desert Noises.  Sure, there’s hints of Americana or folk laying in their work, but by and large this is just a good American pop song, the kind we should be proud people are creating.  It’s not manufactured or over-produced; it’s just a jam of a track that makes you feel good. The band’s debut full-length, 27Ways, will be out on the streets in March via SQE Music.

New Music from Babe

Babe-HeadlineWinding down 2013 means we’ve got to make sure we’ve covered our bases, and I really wanted to make sure you all had a chance to hear this great song from Babe that went up a few weeks ago.  This single comes from the group’s upcoming LP, which is slated for a release on Moshi Moshi in March of 2014.  I love that there’s this real shimmering dance line that’s created with actual instruments, including the occasional stutter of vocals.  There’s different shifts too in what the group is offering up, so I’d be remiss to make a nod to those slight little changes.  It’s a promising start, if you’re asking me.
