Golden Tiles Drop Debut EP

If you’re in need of some lo-fi indie rock to stream over this next week, you’re not going to find much better than the debut EP from Portland’s Golden Tiles. “Tale We Told” takes on a slow-burning cigarette mode, just kind of slowly moving in and out of delicious little melodies and distorted waves of joy; I loved the light-hearted nature of the vocals throughout. Maybe you’re looking for something that feels GBV adjacent, so might we suggest pressing play on “100%,” which uses that heavy bass before careening off into it’s own lo-fi energy. The First EP is chock full of really great moments that keep you circling back, so special shout out to Antiquated Future for putting this on our radar!

Fantastic Purple Spots Announce Spotsylvania Lullabies EP

Things have slowed down a little bit at ATH Records, as dad life is in full bloom, but we were fortunate to begin this year by offering up Fantastic Purple Spots Vibrations Now EP; we decided there’s no better way to end the year than to introduce you to Spotsylvanian Lullabies, the group’s new EP. Opening track “Flowerland” has them jumping into the pastoral version of traditional psychedelia, weaving a marauding bit of guitar sounds around a steadily locked in groove; you have to settle right and just let those fiery riffs echo in your speakers. The second vocal go round has some quieted backing vocals, building in this beautiful texture, letting this groove take on a slight hint at melody as it broods. We’re stoked the band has let us work with them yet again, and we’ll be happy to point you towards Spotsylvanian Lullabies when it drops on December 6th.

Hamburger Offer Quick Pop Ditty

Bristol pop rockers Hamburger have a new EP rearing to go before the year comes to a close, and why not give it a little love by sharing this grungy pop number. It opens with stretching vocals and a bounding bit of keyboard work, and then the hooks drop into the show. The guitars match up with the bounce of the piano, and you’re hit with a crunchy bit of grunge-pop, blasting you with this melodic powerhouse before receding back to where they came from. Beat Back the Ghouls is going to offer up a lot of joy when it hits on November 29th, courtesy of the fine people over at Specialist Subject Records.

Waves of Dread Release The Tide

For the better part of the last few years, Waves of Dread consistently tossed great new noise rock our way, but it’s been a minute, or a year rather, since they dropped new stuff. All that’s out the window with their new EP and lead single “The Tide” now out in the world. Several of the new tunes, like the one below, are fairly short, all things considered, so it’s a little bit of a focused move towards the group’s pop focus, though they still adhere to the noisier elements that got them here. This release indicates that the group are toying with some new vibes, so we’ll keep you posted, as we hope there’s more on the way!

Bubblegum Lemonade Releases Love’s Young Nightmare EP

Another morning treat as I opened the inbox was a fresh batch of tunes from Bubblegum Lemonade; the opening track is one of the singles from the forthcoming Lawrence of Suburbia LP. That opening single sees Laz playing in power-pop mode, albeit still dripping with the melodic sweetness of his earlier work. It does fit right into the vein of where a lot of the pop resurgence comes from, but there are some special treats from the non-album cuts featured here. Personally, I’m drawn to “America Calling” as the song features Sandra from Strawberry Whiplash lending her powerful pipes to build the hooks. Can’t wait to hear the entirety of this new album, but for now, a sprinkle of new music is just the right touch for a Friday. Music on the Love’s Young Nightmare EP brought to you by Matinee Recordings.

Slack Times Announce Gone Things EP

It’s been a couple of years since we fell in love with Carried Away, the last we heard from Alabama’s Slack Times. Alas, we need look to the past no more, as the group have a brand new EP on the way. It’s a brief venture, twirling jangling guitars before our yes, then moving right into a rollicking bit of ups and downs, with the vocals delivered in a manner that feels like lost territory between sweet indiepop and the jangles of the Clean. There’s certainly some mannerisms in the songwriting that all the kids, like us, will love. Gone Things EP is slated for a release on October 11th via Meritorio Records.

Fascinations Grand Chorus Share Summer Love

While the Summer season may be drawing to its close (please God please!), it looks as if Fascinations Grand Chorus are yet to give up on the dream, as today, they drop a brand new EP brimming with sunshine and warmth that will hold you over through Winter. It’s a nostalgic sound, one that sees the group really hitting on traditional harmonies and sonic vibes that would make Brian Wilson proud. Still, they spin the entirety of their style through a modern indiepop lens, giving it the slightest playfulness that almost feels like they’re giving the fans a little wink as they dance down the beach! Give Summer Love a listen!

The Gaby’s Announce New 7″ EP

If you run in the cool-kid indie circle, mention of the Gabys yesterday was all over everyone’s timeline, rejoicing in the news that there was a fresh EP on the way. We’ve only got this one track to go off, but it sees them dwelling in that brilliantly mellowed pop realm. There’s a lonesome quality to the guitar lines, trickling and bending ever-so gently, almost weary as they lay down before the vocals. Those vocal notes are pretty near perfect, rising just beneath the ride of the cymbals to offer a calmed resolve that’ll certainly have your pop ears ready for the release of their new 7″; it drops via Fruits and Flowers on August 23rd.

Rock Out with Sylvia

Felt like the best way to begin a Friday was with a solid bit of rock n’ roll, though of course it would also come with a little melodic morsel to sample, like this ripping new Sylvia tune. They’ve just recently dropped EP II, and while I didn’t catch on until just now, you can bet I’ll have you cranking up your speakers immediately. The tune rushes right in with this shattering smatter of noisy discord, all centered around singer Gemma’s voice. Something about the vocals comes across as a bit pensive; they seem dreamy, sure, but they kind of feel as if they’re more of a place of solace amidst the band’s brash sounds. Sample this tune, then go check out the rest of EP II.

Ghost Fan Club Shares Love Bug + Drops New EP

We’ve already teased the release of Ghost Fan Club for a couple of singles, and now we offer you one final reason to invest in the group’s new EP, officially out today! Opening up your ears, you’ll find a lightness to the song’s craft, as it’s a trickling bit of guitar and whispering vocals billowing through your speakers; they add in some textured percussion and a little grooving synth line to flesh things out. Around the 1:50 mark you get a little directional change, bringing in a kind of emphatic little midtrack stomp that wiggles in some variation before settling back into the bread and butter of the band’s craft. Enjoy the single below and adventure into the depths of the EP HERE.
