LIFE Share New Single, Big Moon Lake

Looks like LIFE have a new record on the way, and I’m totally stoked with this new single; it seems like their sound is hitting just at the perfect time, as folks are clamoring for this brand of punk. Mez Green’s vocal delivery comes off in that very matter-of-fact manner, his voice matching up to the rhythm; I love when he playfully gets a little out there with the tonal notes on the delivery of the line “Don’t go to Big Moon Lake.” Plus, the rhythm section just crushes on this tune, with the guitars adding this harrowing shriek that builds on the band’s noisiness. North East Coastal Town will be out on June 10th via Liquid Label.

Ex Void Share No Other Way

You’ve got to imagine a band featuring members of Joanna Gruesome is going to have a lot of pressure to live up to their former name, and this new single seems to be the one that cements Ex Void as their own powerful force. As the song unfolds, it offers up a relaxed bit of casual indie rock, light jangles, but mostly just a burning fuzz of guitar work. For me, it was the chorus that really hits home, as I love the way the vocals rise and fall in tone, crashing into you with an emphatic punch that burrows into your mind. They’ll be dropping their Bigger Than Before LP in our laps on March 25th via Don Giovanni Records.

My Idea Share New Single, Crutch

Having already won over fans with their various projects Lily Konigsberg and Nate Amos have joined forces to enchant us with their joint act, My Idea. Their latest single is an airy indie pop tune, floating with these relaxed guitar textures, allowing Lily’s voice to take the lead role, riding atop the mix like a cool Spring breeze. This tune, as the title suggests, illustrates the friendship between the two, relying upon one another as their lives suffered elsewhere, only to find a home in the album they’ve created. It seems like things have worked out for the benefit of the duo, and us, as we’ll get to hear CRY MFER on April 22nd via Hardly Art.

Go Hawaii Share Coastal Single

Once you’ve delved into our reflective playlist, I wanted you to start your day with this Go Hawaii‘s latest single, “Coastal.” The band said they aimed to capture the simultaneous feel of “melancholy and bliss,” and I can certainly hear what they were after in this track. The vocals take on a solemn mood, serious and heavy, almost weighed down by the world. Standing in direct contrast is the energetic push of everything surrounding the vocals; you can’t tell me that bass line doesn’t get you out of your chair and into dancing mode with a big grin on your face. Maybe you too are stuck between two places; it is Monday, after all, so just turn it up and find solace in this jam.

Crystal Eyes Drop Don’t Turn Around Video

This Crystal Eyes tune’s been floating around for a few days, but it’s delightful feel totally has me circling back to listen again and again. The drum work is really the driving force of the tune, with the string elements pulsing and gyrating, though often muted in the mix. All of that allows for Erin Jenkins to offer these vocals that feel almost rushed, like she’s hurrying to run these lyrics through your ears. I love the 2 minute mark jet off into a more chaotic pop feel, tugging the song into this territory that feels nostalgic and timeless all at once. The band release The Sweetness Restored on April 22nd via Bobo Integral.

Boy with Apple Share Linger On

While Sweden’s Boy with Apple work on their debut album, they’re spending the Spring months dropping little breadcrumbs so we can follow along. I love everything about this latest track, drenched in these heavy notes and cascading guitar notes glittering across the song’s backdrop. Theres’s something about the vocals that shimmers and reverberates in your ears as the rhythm section thumps; it leaves you with this blanketing melodiousness that soothes you as the darkness echoes behind. Really love the way the band is working things out, and I’m super excited to hear where they end of with this debut; the new single is out today courtesy of Varo Records.

Twain Shares King of Fools Single

New Austinite Matthew Davidson, aka Twain, has a new track out there, and with it, we can only hope that it signals a new LP on the horizon. There’s something special about Davidson’s songwriting, something that feels naturally cinematic in nature. Through the verses on this song, there’s something both wistful and spritely, setting up the vocal meandering of the chorus, where Matthew clearly flexes his voice for the audience. Honestly, his range is all over this track, stretching to his unexpected notes here, settling into angelic moments there, all letting us rejoice in his craft. This single is out now via Keeled Scales, so let’s hope we get something more real real soon!

Kindsight Share Hi Life Single

Danish quartet Kindsight will be dropping their new full-length, Swedish Punk at the end of March, and they’re teasing us with another delightful single today. Nina Rasmussen dominates the verses, sneaking in with these vocals that feel like a sunnier Juliana Hatfield. But, for all Rasmussen’s endearing notes, the band still kick up some bite when you get to the chorus, shattering the pop faade with an emphatic burst of noisy fury; the drums pound and the guitars are nothing but sheer noise, with Nina cutting through it all. It’s a great mix, keeping Swedish Punk in my mind as the band’s breakthrough performance; it hits on March 25th via Rama Lama Records.

Star Party Share Shot Down Video

It’s a wonderful year for fuzzy pop records, and we’re only two months in; we’ve got the new Artsick and Kids on the Crime Spree LPs, then on the horizon is this new Star Party. They’re getting some Shop Assitants/Black Tambo nods, and I don’t mind that, but to me, it feels like they’ve taken Talulah Gosh, injected it with amphetamines, then recorded it in a ramshackle tin shed. It’s strikingly melodic, despite the chaotic tendencies, and you can’t help but be charmed by the accompanying video, either. Energetic and punchy, hook-laden and fun…all of which makes me excited to add another great pop album to my collection this year! Meadow Flower is out March 11th via Feel It/Tough Love.

Eve’s Twin Lover Shares Josie

I’m all over the place today, and this new Eve’s Twin Lover tune is hitting all the right notes. Opening guitar lines cut right through to my musical heart, before the song opens up and brings in a more melodic element that’s equally enchanting. The verses seem to resonate with a very power pop style, hitting those arena rock riffs built for maximum volume. But, the chorus is perhaps the most striking element here, asking the listener “have you ever loved so hard,” then turning the song into a more blissful bit of pop songwriting. There’s a definite punch to the song, with a fluid evolution that feels more like a traditional linear plot as opposed to a verse/chorus approach, and I’m all for that risk! The band will self-release Stop Sending People to Kill Me this Spring.
