Brand New Eureka California Tune

Fresh off the release of their latest album, Versus, Eureka California is back with a brand new 7″…featuring this rocking number below. While the song takes a second or two to get going, once it hits, it blasts forth with a riotous fury, seemingly running so fast the band can barely keep up! The new single will also feature two other songs, one being a cover of Superchunk‘s “Slack Motherfucker.” And, speaking of that 7″, the band and HHBTM Records aim to remind you that singles should be reasonably priced, offering up this release for $3, giving you no excuse other than to pick it up and support the cause; do so on February 24th when it hits the streets.

ATX Spotlight: Ama Releases New Single

amaA day after we dropped our ATX Christmas Guide, featuring tons of local talent, we’ve got another talented group offering up their new single, Ama. The band’s long been known to us, but the balance of this track exemplifies the group’s talents; they rock hard amidst the cool verses on display from vocalist Blair Robbins. You offer me impressive guitar work and hook-laden vocals and I’m in, which is why I’ll throw down behind this act. No word on a release, but you can help them out by throwing a buck or two their way over on their Bandcamp.

Wistappear Share A Fresh New Song

unnamed-1Coming in to today I knew not one thing about SoCal based group Wistappear, but I’m looking to remedy that today with this promising new single. The song, entitled “Overflowed” is reminding me of the frequent rhythm changes of Dirty Projects mixed in with the fun and open vibe of a say Here We Go Magic. My comparisons aside, it’s definitely a reason to start paying attention to this band and their upcoming new album.

Knack for Whatever is out on November 18th.

New Music from Trudy and the Romance

trudyThis new track from Trudy and the Romance just popped up, so I reckoned you could give it a listen if you can crawl out of bed and spin some music today. The band have proclaimed their style as “50s mutant pop,” but it definitely has a modern swagger to it, which should help keep it on your radar. Honestly, it sounds like an angrier King Krule kicking out a rocker to get the party started, with a throatier growl to it. I’m continually impressed by the work these lads are doing; they’ll also be making their was to the US for some SXSW fun, so here’s to that!

Digging Pauwel de Meyer

pauwelMonday’s are for being uplifted, and I reckon you should start with Pauwel de Meyer‘s newest single. It’s a pretty straight ahead indie rock track, with just a bit of guitar noodling. But, I think the harmony created by de Meyer is what continues to make my morning better; the way the tones raise when he repeats “am I doing alright” tug at ye old heartstrings. Right now, we’re just throwing this out there as a one off single, but we’re hoping that the promise shown here brings us more from Pauwel in the very near future.

Brand New Music from Will Johnson

willWill Johnson means a lot to RayRay and myself. We’re huge Centro-matic fans, and I swear that Vultures Await is one of my favorite records from a Texan in the last decade. It’s been great to watch him continue his growth, his turns and his accolades. He’s currently up for a Grammy for Best American Roots Performance, not to mention that great 7″ he released on Record Store Day of last year. It looks like Will’s proud as well, as he recorded this beautiful bit of guitar and vocals just for you, his fans. How a person can listen to this and not fall in love is beyond me…so fee free to give it a try…you’ll have to play it once or twice just to make sure.

Matt Pond PA Is Still Going

unnamed-10Matt Pond PA is a group, or musician if you’d rather, who has been around since the early days of ATH and beyond. It’s crazy to me that he’s still going strong after all these years while many of the bands from those early, almost pre-historic, days of Polyvinyl have long since died out. Well the dude is back again with another song called “The Glow” to add to his already impressive and overwhelming discography. Honestly, the best way I can describe this is by simply saying it sounds like Matt Pond and it bring me great joy. Hopefully it will do the same for you.

Matt Pond PA will release new album Winter Lives on November 11th. Pre-order here.

Nice Indie Pop From The Tins

unnamed-6In keeping with my theme of trying to simplify things here, I present to you this new single called “Friday Afternoon” from Buffalo, NY based The Tins. It’s a simple pop number with a very repetitive feel and a bit of meandering guitar throughout the track. The chorus here also drops in nicely to break up the melodic acoustic guitar bits driving the song. Easy to like.

This new single can be purchased on iTunes or Spotify now.

ATX Spotlight: Fresh Stephen Svacina

stephenOver the last several years, Stephen Svacina has dominated Austin’s rock n’ roll scene with his band Sweet Talk. But, he’s taking a little break from that project, and crafting some songs on his own. Our first listen sees him taking on a slightly new vibe, despite having a familiar voice. It’s much more casual, almost in the realm of hook-laden guitar pop (which I adore!). The guitar turn when he says “I’ll leaving with my hands in the air,” crafting this crisp bit of pop brilliance. No word on when and if he’ll put this on a physical release, but enjoy it while it’s out there. He’ll be playing at Beerland on Wednesday night, in case you want to prove that there’s no Austin music crisis.

New Video/Single from Love Sport

Love Sport have graced our pages a few times before, and they’re back again today with a brand new video for you from their forthcoming record, Dull Tracks. The video is a shot in a home-video format, telling the story of a cursed guitar that just won’t quit until it’s burned into ashes. For the song, you’ll find the band bending chords, throwing down semi-psychedelic guitar licks and working with some distinctive vocal tones. I can see people making comparisons to Mac D or that horrifically named genre, slacker-pop. Regardless, I’m digging it. Look for the LP from Soliti later on this year!
