More New Pedro the Lion

Looking towards 2019, this Pedro the Lion album is high on my list of anticipated releases. We get a new single today, and while I love the noisier elements in the background, I’m really struck by the vocal tones. It’s every bit David B., but he’s really pushing his limits to the highest part of his register. I can’t help but to recall American Football or something off Jade Tree when I listen to this track, and that’s not a knock by any means. Just another step in the glorious evolution that is Bazaan; look for Phoenix to drop on January 18th via Polyvinyl. There’s never a bad day when you get a fresh Pedro tune, especially full-band Pedro.

Rad Tune from Dehd

Chicago act Dehd have a pretty solid pedigree, but we needn’t focus on that when they’ve got this stunning new track to enjoy. The track really has this sound that seeps into your soul, and I get that that sounds strange, but those guitar chords seem to weave their way into your skin as the vocals take on a heavy solemnity. All the while you feel as if the track is rolling, churning you over and over like a wave crashing upon the shore. Man, this is a serious jam for serious people. Rock it out and have a happy Friday.

Bangin’ New Broncho Track

Tulsa based pop group BRONCHO has picked up a ton of positive press from us over the last few years. It’s easy to write good things about a band who bring such a positive vibe to danceable pop tunes. The band’s latest track “Keep it in Line” furthers their foray into quality pop music and should firmly establish them as one of the best in the indie pop genre. Seriously, this song is so catchy and so easy to like.

BRONCHO will release new LP Bad Behavior on October 12th via Park the Van.

Cinerama Covers ABBA

If you haven’t been keeping an eye on the continuous production of great singles from WIAIWYA, then hopefully you’ll turn your head with the latest, a split covers 7″ from the Wedding Present and Cinerama; they cover The Clash and ABBA…though is it really a split if David Gedge is behind both? Whatever. The ABBA cover streaming below is fairly gentle, much like the original tune; I always appreciate the prettier, more delicate, side of Gedge, which is how I’ve always come to think about Cinerama. The single comes out the first week of November, and then we’ll be able to talk about what a great job Gedge did with the Clash I expect.

Surf Rock Is Dead Ready Their Debut

Surf Rock is Dead have made appearance on our pages before, but what better reason to bring up the band than to share a new track from the band’s forthcoming LP. Like earlier tunes, the group has a knack for building in these hooks that wrap themselves around your ears again and again. At times, the track has this great bounce to it, like early stuff from the Drums, but other times, the duo (now three-o) just build in these pop rock anthemic moments that dwell in the region of new dream pop stylings, accented by sharp guitar notes. No release date as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted, as I’m sure we’ll be talking about these guys quite a bit.

Wildhoney Drop Gorgeous New Tune

The only thing I want to get off my chest is that not enough people are listening to Wildhoney! Today, the band shared a new single from the Slumberland Subscription Series over on NPR, which hopefully garners more deserved attention. Let’s get to that song though. It begins with a light ringing guitar, politely dancing through the speakers; it establishes the perfect setting for Lauren to enter with voice in tow. I love how her voice seems to sparkle in step with the crisp guitar notes. Then comes the rising joyousness of the momentary chorus. But, most importantly, we should take notice that the song’s crafted in various stages. The blissful openings soon makes way for a fuzzed out explosion, only to settle into this cascading atmospheric moment that wraps the song up in a warm blanket. Seriously. Go listen to more Wildhoney. And join the Slumberland Subscription!

Love The New Single from Say Sue Me

Where We Were Together played on my stereo for a good bit of this Spring…and luckily I was able to catch Say Sue Me in a quiet room during SXSW. Now, the Korean quartet are right back it with their brand new single for Damnably. For those that recall the jangling guitar pop, the A-side might give you a glimpse at a band forging their own ground. There’s something far more thoughtful in the presentation alone; the song expands near six minutes, with the front end of the track delivered in a casual pop manner. You can hear a slightly heavier sound in the distance of the song, but it doesn’t really kick in until just after the 3 minute mark, blasting off into some semi-Madchester zone. Look for this great song on the new 7″, out August 24th.

Yet Another Gem From Paul Bergmann

Leeds, Massachusetts based songwriter Paul Bergmann has received an enormous amount of praise on our website over the last few years. Seriously, Nathan and I love this guy’s music. After releasing his Night, Unfold EP last February, Bergmann is treating us fans with this new one off single called “Death of Me”. In simplest of terms, this song is absolutely beautiful.

Brand New Day Wave

We haven’t heard from Day Wave since The Days We Had…though we did catch the band’s set at ACL last fall. Now, we’re getting a glimpse of where Jackson Phillips has been with a new single popping up today. It’s a bright pop song number, with just a hint of atmospherics textured into his vocals, giving off that popular dream quality. While the song’s front half is filled with energy and hooks, it’s the back side that has my interest, with a thoughtful fade out that wraps you up in warmth before the song disappears. No word on a release, but the way Phillips works, I expect an EP any day now!
