New Jam from Woollen Kits

This past summer we tossed out one of the hits from Woollen Kits‘ most recent 7″, and now we’re more than happy to share with you a brand new track from one of Australia’s best exports.  The group is set to release their new album, Four Girls, on November 13th via Trouble In Mind Records, and I, personally, couldn’t be more excited about it. On this new single, you’ll hear a saxophone, adding a bit of classy smoothness to the group’s jangling rock n’ roll swagger.  If you’re looking for something to end your 2012 record purchases, I can’t suggest a better way to wrap up your year. This tune’s incredible.

New Jam from Tiger Waves

We’ve been talking about the dudes in Tiger Waves for quite some time, like a year +, and we’re going to continue to write about them as long as the Austin group continuously write such incredible tunes.  They’ve just put up a new Digi 7″ on their BANDCAMP page, and this is one of the gems from that session.  It’s just two tracks, but their both just incredible, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t try to get ahold of them while you can.  I know the boys went recording this past summer, so hopefully we’ll have a full-length for the masses to fall in love with soon.

New Music from Sambassadeur

I’ve been waiting for some time to listen to this new track from Sambassadeur, knowing that one of my favorite labels, Labrador, was going to release a new 7″ from the group.  The Memories 7″ is set to come out in November, and they’re giving everyone a chance to preview the material today.  Interestingly, the bass line steals the show, providing a stepping rhythm that definitely propels the song forward.  If you’ve followed the band, you’ll notice the orchestral touches such as horns and string cuts coming in and out of the track. I wish these guys would put out more material, but this will do.

New Jam from TV Torso

The dudes in TV Torso have been hard at work recording various tunes over the last year, and we finally get a chance to hear some of their efforts paying off.  This tune comes from Clear Lake Strangler, which is a short EP the group currently has to offer HERE for the NYOP special.  This particular tune has a straight-forward edge with a vocal that I’m really attached to today.  I have a feeling this is just a short preview of the great stuff they have coming our way in the very near future.  The group will be releasing their new CD at Hotel Vegas this Saturday night in Austin with some other great locals, so be sure to show your local love.

More New Jams from Jinja Safari

Just last week I ran a post about Jinja Safari and their song “Hiccups,” which I described as a broader bit of collage pop.  This time around, the group’s offering up a more thoughtful tune, which still demonstrates their playfulness all the while showing some restraint. It would seem that with hits like these we’re right around the corner for a brilliant debut LP, yet still no final word on a release date.  Wait for the song to past the minute mark, then it really gets rolling with some incredible drumming and even some edgier guitar playing in the background. I’m really excited by these dues…how about you?

New Collage Pop from Jinja Safari

I can’t hide from the fact that I’m always intrigued by groups that compile various layers of pop instrumentation into their tunes, much like the current single from Jinja Safari.  The group is preparing for a release of their debut sometime in early 2013, but until then I think a lot of people are going to be really excited by this tune.  It’s a weird cross between Animal Collective and Local Natives, using tribal influences that mix with more organic electronic sounds.  Definitely a sound that I’m interested in hearing more of; I’ll keep you posted as news floats in my way.

New Tune from Girls Names

I’ve been in love with Girls Names since their inception, but even more so now that their drummer Neil is battling for album of the year with his latest effort as Sea Pinks.  That point aside, the group’s got a great new single they’ve throw out, illustrating the bold new steps they’re taking in working towards the completion of their upcoming record. There’s still an element of lurking darkness in their sound, but the music seems to have drifted into a broader spectrum that I think shows the group really pushing themselves to find a new playground (musically speaking).  I love the ringing guitar that jumps in just after the 4 minute mark.

New Jam from Those Darlins

This is a solid week for Those Darlins on our site, with the band letting us present their show at the Mohawk this coming Sunday evening, and now they’ve got a great little rocker to toss your way as well.  I like how the group’s slowed things back here just a second to allow for the story to take place, if not more allowing it to take on more of the focus.  Also, there’s a fuzzed out guitar rambling near the end, which is one of my favorite sides of the band, not to mention that inherent swagger/bravado they always capture in the studio.  If you dig this song, and you live in Austin…I better see you Sunday.  If you don’t, but you love the band, here’s yet another reason.

New Single from Gap Dream

I’ve been really pleased with the output from Suicide Squeeze Records this year, already releasing hits from King Tuff and Iron and Wine.  They’re gearing up for another 7″ from Gap Dream titled Ali Baba.  I love the casual way this songs opens up, not really forcing the issue.  For the most part, the song trickles in the same manner throughout, with Gabe Fulvimar sitting around kicking out his vocals in a calm and cool manner.  I have a feeling that a lot of people are really going to enjoy this tune…it’s like a garage rocker for the laid back type.

Great Floating Folk Number from Day Joy

I’ve been looking through the window at the rain for hours, trying to get the site ready for the week.  One of the tracks we were sent just seems perfectly fitting for the soundtrack of these last two hours. Florida’s Day Joy have crafted this emotional folk number, which gives me the impression that my life is quietly floating by as the rain soaks my yard.  It’s a pretty special listen, and one that moved me the minute I pressed play.  You can find this track and others on the band’s debut, Go To Sleep, Mess; the record will be released soon by Small Plate Records.
