Last Week’s Jams, Today (9.6 – 9.9)

Last week came and went in a flash, but there were definitely a few hits we wanted to remind you about that were on our radar. Two relatively unknown acts on our radar finally dropped their LPs, so be sure to listen to the hits from Pet Owner and Tin-ear. I was fortunate to see a sneak Voxtrot warm-up set before they head out on the road for a quick reunion tour, so made sure I included a jam in there. Plus, you’ve got new stuff from Winter and the Smashing Times, so there’s just 14 quick hits for you to digest this morning.

Oceans Share New Single, High

The lockdown, while still looming in our thoughts, brought about a lot of creativity for artists, and it seems to have spun Australia’s Oceans in a slightly new direction. Now operating as a full band, there’s a bit of promise on the horizon, and I mean that in more of a metaphorical sense. You can still feel the darkened edges that were present on the Come So Far EP, but there’s an electricity that seems to be dashing through on this brand new single (the first as a full band). For starters, the time stamp has it at just over 2 minutes, meaning the band have to apply a frantic nature to it; you can hear that in the drum’s pounding away and the stabbing guitar lines that knife their way in and out. Still, that dreamy vocal seems to rise and crest, just as the guitars hit with more enthusiasm, blasting you with a cool breeze of delightful melody. This new single is brought to you courtesy of Shelflife Records.

Electro-Pop from Oceans

efeEarlier in the year we brought you some smooth grooves from Oceans, the Finnish artist working with our friends over at Soliti Music; they just sent us a brand new track that we wanted to throw out to you in the middle of the week. It’s one of those electronic tunes that builds upon itself, propelled by a propulsive beat beneath the soulful lyrics that echo through your speakers. There’s something compelling in the simplicity of the approach to, which bodes well for the man behind the song, Efe Tekkanat. His new Thrill EP will be released by the label on October 30th. There’s also a video HERE if you’re into those sorts of things.

Keep It Simple With Seafret

seafret

Folksy music always has a way of worming its way into my heart and listening patterns, so when I heard this track “Oceans” from acoustic duo Seafret I couldn’t help but enjoy its sound. These two gentlemen currently making music out of London have crafted a simple, yet elegant, track that relies on the emotion-drenched vocals to carry the song along. While this isn’t the most complex of tunes, sometimes simplicity is enough to keep you locked in. Have Seafret done enough to keep you interested?

Wake Up with Oceans

oceanIf, like some of us at the ATH offices, you’re struggling a bit here on Monday, then turn up the stereo and kick it with this dance number from Oceans.  They’re just the latest act to sign on with Soliti Music over in Finland.  The grooves are definitely bass heavy, allowing for you to get that toe-tapping feeling in your feet, but there’s also a nice bit of warmth hiding in the vocals…winning over any listener.  Not only that, but it’s quick and to the point, allowing you to sink your teeth in quickly and move on.  Look for an EP on October 31st.
