Billy Tibbals Shares Out of Touch

The more I listen to Billy Tibbals the less I seem to know how to describe his craft. There are times where the bratty vocal delivery reminds me of Jay Reatard; then he rolls his tongue and comes across like Geddy Lee or some other master of prog sentiment. All of it gets punched in through a frantic bit of huge riffs and playful little recording mix nuances like the telephone call in the midst of this single. At times he’s driving and punchy, then turns around and feels playful, as if he’s been playing with us all along. Then you get to the end and you hear a bit of Bolan or Bowie, bridging all these influences to leave you with a track that surely soars if you crank it all the way up! His Nightlife Stories EP is out this Friday via Silver Arrow Records.

Lovely Lo-Fi Pop From Beauty Queen

Beauty Queen is the brainchild of San Francisco’s Katie Iannitello, who makes hazy and hooky bedroom pop with a hint of chillwave. Her project, produced by Daywave’s Henry Nowhere, has a new EP out calledOut Of Touch, and it’s filled with the kind of grooves reminiscent of U.S. Girls crossed with the likes of Cuco. It’s all at once dreamy and gritty, which you’ll understand on the title track, “Out Of Touch,” where you’re greeted with twangy riffs and then Iannitello’s whispery vocals coat the whole track in a bit of hazy fog. Then you’re struck by the disco-esque chorus that is catchy enough to secure its place in your brain for the rest of the day at the very least. Head over to Beauty Queen’s SoundCloud to jam the rest of the EP.

Brothertiger Should Brighten Your Day

Brothertiger

John Jagos and his project known as Brothertiger has picked up some positive praise on ATH over the years, and I’ve grown to admire the music despite my typical avoidance of the electronic genre.  My admiration grows even more today with this enchanting new track “Out of Touch”.  I’m fascinated with the way Jagos can create a beautiful pop song here, and though it might be labeled synth or electronic, it’s truly just a great pop song.  Enjoy.

You can pick up Out of Touch on December 4th.
