Devin Shaffer Shares Anyone

Beginning our day with a roll in the electronic underground of Sweden got our energy up, but alas, its time to take a little respite and rest in the mystical world of Devin Shaffer. The New York songwriter is the purest embodiment of ethereal pop I’ve come across of late, with her music fluttering around your head like a moth to a flame. It feels as if you’re traipsing through some Southern town, fog rolling in off the bayous as Spanish moss hangs from the trees; it’s both powerful and haunting, yet the ornate nature maintains a special bit of intimacy. Her new album, Patience, drops next week, November 7th, just in time for you to retreat for the Winter.

New Music from Devin Shaffer

Perhaps we should get out of the gloomy realms of today, instead moving into the more pensive pieces such as this track from Devin Shaffer. According to Shaffer, the track encompasses the album’s concept, with the aim “to surrender to the pace at which things move. As the song title would suggest, a light strum barely crawls its way into the foreground, just patiently sitting behind the vocal that seems to ebb and flow with the passage of time. Little flourishes of percussion and weeping strings come into the background, though careful not to overpower the vocals, allowing you to just sit with the emotion, or surrender to its passage of time. The new album, Patience, is scheduled to drop on November 7th via American Dreams Records.

Curling Share Patience Single

Curling is a band that seems hard to define with simple genre tags like shoegaze or even post-emo. While these lads certainly have some of those elements in their sound, they also can hit you with some heavy crescendos, loud guitars, and what I might consider classic rock at times. This new single “Patience” seems to embody this vibe incredible well and I suggest you check it out below.

“Patience” is part of a new Curling album entitled No Guitar due out August 11th. Pre-orders are live now.

Brand New Gorgeous Bully

Gorgeous Bully have long been on our radar over here at ATH, and when they dropped this new single we, of course, had to get it up. I love the guitar sound that immediately jumps in; it’s heavy and foreboding, with just a hint of harmony…akin to some of the late moments when Sonic Youth took a stab at pop sensibility. The vocals stand back just a bit in the mix with a coat of distortion atop, giving a touch of grit to the song’s presentation. And as always is the case with the band, there’s no shying away from melody, ingraining the track in your head. They’ll be releasing Closure via Breakfast Records real soon!

Pop Hit from Patience

Man…it’s a bummer Veronica Falls is no longer functioning, as it seems like every member has a ridiculously rad side project, be it Boys Forever, Ultimate Painting…and now Roxanne gives us Patience. We’ve heard very little but there’s a this brand new video/hit that definitely nicks from 80s club hits, even in the construction of the accompanying video. That being said, I love her voice here, and would basically listen to anything she does at the moment. And now that I think about it, maybe V Falls is just working on world domination by offering up a bunch of diverse tunes…whatever the reason, listen to Patience and look for The Pressure 7″ from Night School Records on September 30th.

New Jams From Leatherbag

Austin boys Leatherbag are one of those bands that are highly underrated in this town, yet somehow seem to be on the verge of blowing up any second.  Hell, after some searching, it seems as though we ATH geniuses have never posted music by the band.  Derp.  Well this hard working Austin band recently released new LP Yellow Television AND new EP Patience just last week.  Below you can find lead single from the full length entitled “Imitation Generation” for your enjoyment.  I think it will show you that we’ve been missing the boat on one of Austin’s finest songwriters Randy Reynolds.  By the way, you can stream both new LP and EP over on the band’s website so get to it.
