HOLY Shares The Ryder

The last HOLY LP was this otherworldly psychedelic adventure; it was all these interesting sonic collages melded into one unique sound. But, the more we’ve heard from the forthcoming Ryder LP, it seems like this is the same structure, only spun in a more unique pop fashion. This tune has this glimmering sheen to it, slowed down to an almost careful lounge croon; the keyboard notes are merely a light pulse, bobbing on the surface of the track. It’s such a subtly textured pop song that it sort of blankets you in this natural warmth, which I don’t mind at all; think Jonathan Bree, but mellow. This new LP will be out on Febuary 28th via PNKSLM.

HOLY Shares Another Track

A few new HOLY tunes have leaked out from the forthcoming LP, but this is the first one that really feels like Hannes Ferm is moving in a different direction…though not one I’m opposed to by any means. Here, the intense psychedelia has been replaced by these synthetic beats and these broad touches; it sounds like a modern take on the Top Gun soundtrack, filled with thick drums and dense melodic production. There’s definitely a turn that might have been hinted at with the last single that featured label mate BOYS. Why to start the week out with a huge pop song?!

Something Special from HOLY

The new single from Sweden’s HOLY seems intent on frightening you, elevating a slight bit of noise from the get-go. But, if you endure, you’ll be rewarded with the beautifully revelation of the balladry draped atop a piano backbone. Eventually, electronics and drums enter the picture, continuing the song’s natural build; it’s like building a beautiful tower of pop, one floor at a time. There’s a brief interlude in the midsection, which gives way for a slightly grittier vocal performance that eventually meets up with the more polite voice from the song’s early minutes. Seriously stunned by how beautiful this is; look for All These Worlds Are Yours on January 26th via PNKSLM Recordings.

This Song Is The Jam: The Castillians

thecastilliansThe week, though thankfully it’s almost over, has been a stressful one for the ATH crew. Coming back to the work week after an intense weekend of Music Festing, is always a pain, but here’s a track that’s helping me numb that lingering pain this late in the week. The Castillians are a UK group that make garage pop that sounds like a mix between Little Joy and The Walkmen, but is all kinds of wonderful. This track, “I’ll Be Your Man,” starts out incredibly slow and then builds to a rocking finish. This track is off of The Castillians’ LP, Show Your Teeth, which is out May 18th.
