You Beauty Offer Up Something A Bit Different

12107067_1019804001405757_5678164075322496692_nI don’t really know what to say about You Beauty other than I’m really enjoying their latest single. It starts out with this brooding bit of post-punk, offering up spoken word to accompany that style. But, as the song pushes along, a shimmering burst of pop shines through in the chorus; it twists the listener up, somehow reminding me of the joyous early days of Brit pop. The band has a new album titled Illywhacka coming your way on January 16th courtesy of the folks over at Bedroom Suck Records, which has been super reliable this year.

High Highs Execute Pop Perfection

highsPeople should be clamoring for more work by band’s like the High Highs. Here, on their new single, they’re hoping you dive into the emotive quality that comes with carefully touching upon beautiful melodies. Here, nothing is forced, touched upon lightly, building and building. It’s a swelling sensation, and considering it’s the opening track for the group’s new LP, Cascades, we should all expect the album to move much the same. If they accomplish such feats, then we’re definitely in for a joy that should reveal itself slowly, then dwell in our souls for some time.

Strange Faces Define Lo-Fi

EtHnj8W61v9AxZlCMRp86rwX31srFVD9FknMV2nISeg41jmojnFJp5wrepwdILzoEb342PBrqzsbIbf0ZDIdmUFiXvQXbB4pHfXLjW-BpAMlTs0equBkQ0PjyCd5oNScQAs the weather gets colder and we near the end of year, I always struggle to discover new music when we begin focusing on best of lists.  Chicago based band Strange Faces has woken me from my new music slumber today with this awesome new track called “I Saw Your Face”.  This is a song that truly defines what it means to be in the lo-fi pop genre.  Think The Men if they washed out everything about their sound and got a bit more poppy.

Stonerism is due out on December 11th via Autumn Tone Records.

Endearing Track from Dan Kelly

11899892_10154169102854377_9129540690693289141_oThis track was pointed out to us by a good friend of the site, and while it’s from an Aussie act, it actually doesn’t sound too much like what’s been breeching our shores as of late. It’s a pop rock tune straight through, though I’ll admit a slight little twang in the vocal definitely caught my ear. There’s something to be said for a song that shoots straight, just bringing you hooks front and center to charm you from the start. This is Dan Kelly folks, and his album Leisure Panic is available now if you just like your rock n’ roll to be fun.

Operatic Notes from Idiot Glee

idiotaI feel like it’s been almost three years since we first wrote about Idiot Glee on these here Interweb pages. It seems like upon his return, he’s upped the ante on the production, taking his operatic notes even higher. He’s still coming across like a more forlorn Dent May or Jens Lekman, though that’s not entirely a bad thing as the pop sensibility never seems to fade from his songs. He just announced the release of his new self-titled album, and this lead single should hopefully have you listening closely. Look for the new effort on January 29th via Hop Hop Records.

Enjoy This New World Champion Tune

unnamed (1)We obviously don’t have too much to share with the world today as we just made it through a party weekend and we figure most people are avoiding new music for the day.  You know us though, we’re going to share new tunes everyday and this song called “Shakes” by Australian band World Champion is my jam for Monday.  It’s sort of like old MGMT meets current Tame Impala.  To me, that sounds like a recipe for delight.  Enjoy.

World Champion will drop their new Avocado Galaxy EP on December 4th via Future Classic.

Austin Spotlight: Allgood Releases Album

allgoodI’ve really been fascinated by Allgood since I stumbled upon the work a few weeks ago. There’s a lot of easy genre references one could throw out, but I leak to just label it construction pop. Kevin, the man behind the sounds, builds these pop tracks, often layering them with varying levels of warmth, guitars and other added notes. It creates this really broad spectrum of sound, gifting listeners with sonic fulfillment time and time again. The new album is titled Attention!, which might just be a call to people to take note, as there’s something really special going on here. Stream the album below, and grab it HERE.

Good and Bad News from The Bankees

bankyIf you’ve been reading our site over the years, one of the group’s we’ve always praised has been The Bankees. I’ve enjoyed their work since the beginning, and they reached out to us yesterday to share a little bit of news with us, both good and bad. The good news is that they’ll be offering a brand new record, Friends, to all their fans. The first single is really great, it seems to encompass the history of the band’s sound all in one great pop song. But, as Simon indicates in his email, this is the final release from the band as they all are parting ways to work on various new adventures. Sad news for me, but I implore you to go visit the bands music, old and new.

Austin Spotlight: Stream the Milezo Album

milezoIt’s been a really great year for Austin music, recording-wise, so it should come as no surprise that there’s another solid release coming out of the town to wrap up the year. Milezo just tossed out their new album, Heads on Holiday. Like most things done with the band, the entire listen is a journey. You’ll hear songs of the psych sort pushed in the direction of wistful pop songs then off to lush gazing tracks. It’s never in one place long, offering a lot of discovery for listeners. Take a trip with these guys by streaming it in its entirety below; you won’t regret it.

Fortuna Pop Brings You Chorusgirl

Chorusgirl_Close_up_Blue_webToday’s the day when I get to count on reliable labels I adore to bring us great new tunes, such as this brand new single from Chorusgirl. There’s a definitive nostalgic nod, as mentioned in the band’s bio (Lush/The Cure), but I see the group fitting right alongside acts like Eternal Summers. You’ve got guitar work swirling around the vocals, all the while the rhythm section propels the song forward, giving the track a juxtaposition between brooding and shimmering joy. You’ll be able to grab their debut album from Fortuna Pop on November 13th.
