Club 8 Release Just Like Heaven

Contrary to popular opinion, this new Club 8 track is not a Cure cover song, and in fact, doesn’t even seem close, aside from the song’s title. There’s something about the group that faintly reminds me of Raveonettes, using a similar adherence to a simplistic formula; the rhythm section is tight and buoyant, but never out of pocket. This allows the group to focus on the pop sensibility, whether that comes via the sharp guitar notes or the coolness of the vocal delivery. This is their second single recently, so let’s hope we’re getting more classic pop vibes from the Swedish outfit in the new future, and maybe even a nice little LP.

Pulsing New Tune from My Gold Mask

Personally, I’m struggling this week. It’s my last week with my students, and as 13 year olds, they’re likely to be a little rambunctious, so I’ve got to match their energy. This new tune from My Gold Mask does just the trick, with a pulsing rhythm that moves the song forward. Gretta sounds a little bit bratty, but in that endearing sense that empowers women and makes boys swoon. There’s moments of this track that remind me a bit of Raveonettes, but of course, if you up the dance attitude. Expect a new album from the group later on this year.

New Music From The Raveonettes

News hit the interweb wire yesterday of a new LP from Danish hit makers The Raveonettes. The new album is entitled Raven in the Grave and hits stores April 5th on Vice Records. Prior to that date, the band has made new and completely irresistible single “Forget That You’re Young” available as a free download. I’ll be adding this to my list of must have albums for the spring.

2009 Top 50 Albums

Creating a Top 50 Albums list is never easy. You have to battle with what you think the world believes, and what you truly believe in your heart, to be solid jams. We have even more trouble because we have to three writers, all who have different ideas, and we have to make those ideas fit into a neat box. Free Lollapalooza Sampler

With Lollapalooza inching closer and closer, now is a good time to start talking about the festival and some of the bands playing. We couldn’t think of a better way to introduce some bands to the public than with a free sampler from the fine folks at Lollapalooza.
